I currently own a Nytro and a 2002 MXZ so I know nothing about the Phazers. I'm looking into trading my 2002 MXZ on an 07 phazer with a full aftermarket exhaust, but it does not have a fuel controller. The Phazer has 2000 miles on it. Could damage be done to the motor without a fuel controller? Does it need one?
No you don't need one.

Just exhaust, no. Exhaust + airbox, possibly. The phazers are rich from the factory and can take about 5-6hp in airflow mods before they start to get a bit lean. Even if it was run too lean its a 4 stroke and won't hole a piston. Most of the aftermarket exhausts are only good for 1-2hp anyhow, they are more for better sound and weight reduction. the only pipe that really makes power is Aaen but its LOUD and needs to be repacked.

Thanks for the feedback! That is good to know.

I have the Aaen pipe and clean air mod with no warm air entry into the air box also. I am a 600-1200 above sea level and have no issues with no fuel controller. I have no hesitation or back fire and great throttle response. I have experimented with the ecu at colder temps 0-10 degrees with richer fuel curve and noticed a difference. deffinetly notice a difference in the rpm on climbing and just plain crisp. But once it warms it is a bit more sluggish with the richer fuel curve so I go back to stock fuel curve.
The fuel controller is great if you dont want to mess with it and the change is only in the top range of throttle. The changes through the ecu are through the whole fuel curve from idle to wot. I have had no issues with fouling plugs or using more gas that I've noticed. The Air fuel mixture is 12:1 to 1 up to 12.5 to 1 according to Dynotech research testing on the Phazer. So to answer your question I would not bother with it a dyno is the true info.

UP do you have an a/f meter? I would bet there is missing HP without fuel controller but most of all none of us know if we are lean/rich with exhaust AND intake.
