I blew the 10Amp fuel pump fuse on my sled today. Installed a new one and it blew as well. I have checked everywire that I can, but can't find anything that would be shorting it out. Has anyone had this problem, that might be able to give me some guidence? Could my fuel pump be shot?
I thought maybe it was my DynoJet Fuel Commander, but I unpluged it and it still blew a fuse.
Just thought I would check here before I hauled it into the dealer ship.

Wires problems... grounded on engine block

I know some Nytro's had wiring problems last winter. My buddie had that issue. There are wires that are routed beside the engine and goes at the front of the sled where the relays are and de cdi. When you are sitting on the sled, theses wires are on the left side. There is a "pin" that is moulded on the engine block, front of engine on left side. Sometime, theses wires are sitting right on that "pin" and get grounded. What the dealer did is they grinded that "pin" off.

Take a look a this, your problem may come from there.
Hope it will help.

sounds like the wiring harness bulletin would be your fix. just zip ty the wiring harness to the frame better and cut the "pin" off. (open harness and find and repair the wire that shorts) This is right in front of the motor on the primary side. you should be able to locate the harness easily.

It turns out there was some water in the relay and it shorted out.
I had read somewhere last week about puting dielectric grease on everything, but haven't had time to do it yet. Turns out I should have found the time for it.
I suggest if you haven't done it, you should seal and grease everything.

relay part number for those interested is
3EL-81940-02-00 my wife's went bad as well. i bought a new one from another dealer v.s waiting for warrantee at mine. i will turn both my sleds into the dealer to get replacements so i can have a spare.

also in a pinch if you have to you can pull the rubber boots back on the top of the relay where the power and ground cables are and using a set of insulated pliers touch both of those at the same time with the key in the on position (not turned to where it engages the starter), the sled will turn over and start.

my wifes started acting up when cold but would start normally if it was warm. so if the sled starts acting up, you know it is time to order one. these sleds are only a year old this relay should not fail, so it should be covered under warrantee.

nice thing is this relay fits ALOT of electric start yamaha sleds so the dealer may have it under one or more of the older prefix's. so dont just give up if they say they dont have the -02

meaning yamaha's part number above that says
-02 means there were 2 revisions to the part. so there maybe some out there under -01 and -00.

hope this helps someone. ski
