I haven't experimented too much with low fuel situations on my 05 RX-1... yet...
I have a few questions:
- How much gas can you actually get in an RX-1 tank (from when you just ran out of gas and then filled it right up)? The specs say 10 US gallons or 38 liters is that realistic?
- When the gauge is showing one bar remaining, how much gas is really left?
- When the tank gets almost empty does that one bar go out?
- How much range can I get out of the sled?

Not sure about 05, but my 03 Mountain can get 140 miles and still have fuel left. Most I ever put in my tank, was 9.2 gal.

I have an 04 Warrior and it all depends on how you drive? I ride up in Canada and I'm on that throttle pretty heavy most of the time. With my sled I don't like to venture more than 140 miles without gas in site :?

my gas guage showed two bars left and when i filled up it took 30 litres about eight gallons so it is pretty accurate. range wise 200 kilometres easy 125 miles

With my 04 mountain, in trail condition, 200 km is the max i can do. When light come up, it's lay down about 6 or 7 liters

Last Thursday I put just over 250 kms (156 miles) on one tank with my 05 RX-1.
The light was on for the last 35+ kms (I couldn't get to the gas station I was trying for because the trails were closed) and I was starting to get a little worried. I drove the first 150 kms pretty hard and the last 100 kms taking it easy (the last 35 was with no brake use, easy acceleration, etc.).
Is that last bar on until the trank is dry?
If these sleds get around 17 mpg (US) they should theoretically be good for about 170 miles (272 kms) - assuming there really is 10 US gallons available when the tank is full.

What about that last bar on the fuel gauge?
Does it go off when very empty?

Yeah but on my 03 LE the idiot light is EXTREMELY pessimistic. It comes on at the second bar from the bottom but I usually still have around 4 gal. of gas left. The light usually comes on between 105 - 110 miles. Using that math, I've got at least 60 more miles left.
Furthest I ever pushed it was 155 mi. on one tank and I seem to remember it took 8.9 gal.

Hmm, on my 05 the idiot light comes on at one bar.

remove the white tube from the tank and rerout the vent line up under the handlebar pad. this mod is good for at least 2 more liters. do not fill to top if parking in heated shop as fuel needs room to expand. i have driven up to pumps and put in 40 liters with this setup. when light comes on there is about 12 liters left.

I'm curious  How does that expand the capacity of the tank
When I fill my tank it stills fills up to the neck of the filler :?

I was looking at this mod last night. Basically you remove the part of the neck (white tube) that extends an inch or two into the tank. This lets you fill up the top couple of inches of the tank.
I pulled on the "white tube" and its a snap fit. Pull on it, while pushing it sideways and it will snap out. I put mine back in for now, but might do it - more fuel in the tank is better IMO on those long trips with no fuel in miles.
The only thing I was a little concerned about is gas venting out. Even with the tube re-routed, I imagine it's possible to get fuel soaking into the handlebar foam - especially if you park somewhere with a totally full tank and the temperature rises a bunch. The vent tube is located slightly lower (maybe an inch) than the top of the tank.
I was checking the Northern maps (Quebec and Ontario) a few weeks ago. Some of the longer stretches up north seem to have about 250 kms (156 miles) between fuel stops (most places there is supposed to be someone with fuel available half way, but it's just a tank at the side of the trail...). The extra couple of liters would give a little more confidence that the sled can make it (should give about 7-8 extra miles per tank).
