8DN and clutch kit.

The noisy primary is normal, go to the Nytro section and read up on clutch rattle

I am running the 8 dn belt. The belt is running about a half inch too low on the primary at 8620 rpm. Why would I need a clutch kit should the stock clutching not work right?

Send your primary out to get OD machined in and send your helix out to get machined then you will get full shift out of both

What is your secondary set at? Before spending any money I would set it to 6-1 or 3-3. Free test!

Ok I will check secondary later never had a problem before with Yamaha clutches.

Well with the 8DN there is a little work to be done to get it right. Way worth the time!

Changing spring setting won't let it shift out any feather , you could just get the helix done that will help a lot ....
That why most clutch kits give you more top end because it comes with the helix machined so it will shift out more there for giving you more top end !

But if you want to wast your time and try 3-3 ,6-1,6-2 whatever go ahead !

Tom Hartman would disagree with you, go read his how to on his web page. Secondary wound to tight keeps clutches from going full shift, I actually wound ours to tight to test when I put the long track on. Had to loosen it up some though as too much track spin and lowered speed due to secondary not allowing full shift.

Here is a picture.

Exactly what mine was doing at 6/3 from the factory. Dropped it to 6/2 and gained 8mph. Haven't had ideal test conditions with it set at 6/1 yet, tomorrow I will be riding for the first time with it set at 6/1

you will not ever reach the top of the primary with it in stock form, you should be at 6-1 with the secondary as stated to much pressure will keep the secondary shut with out the power to pull the extra preload, the only time I seen my belt at top of primary is when I add boost to my sled other than that you should be down on the primary a bit.
