Fully clipped or not.

Should I run a fully clipped or every other. It is on a 1" six pitch that I am putting on my RTX. I do a lot of snow lake racing. Tracks USA says the fully clipped is 2.5 lb heavier. I've heard they have more top end but have that weight penalty.

I currently run a 1" six pitch on my 03 RX and it is fully clipped. I got the speed clips that have holes on the top to help retain snow or ice for better hyfax cooling. You won't notice that extra 2lbs. if thats what your concerned with. 2lbs could be an extra sweatshirt and thicker socks. Run the fully clipped.

You will never feel the extra weight if the every 3rd track is binding up due to excessive heat.

IMO all tracks should be fully clipped. The only REAL reason they came out with the every 3rd is they are cheaper tomake (less clips, less assembly, less holes to cut in).

If they were really better, all your mountain sleds would be that way.

One way to do it the is to remove 2/3rd of the track clips. Or at least replace them with side-less clips.

3rd clipped tracks make allot of heat IMO, and are a waste of time. A all clipped track will allow more snow in to the slides.

On my 05 RX-1, by the time you tighten the track enough to keep it from ratcheting, the track is so bound that it actually has blistered the track where the track clips are supposed to be.,

I had my "3rd clipped" track stick to the hyfax up in Canada, in March. I had to stop and flip the sled on its side and pull the track away from the rails. I'm looking at having my track punched and clipped too.

Fully clipped it is better for everything runs cooler less friction sled will go faster better ride shall I go on it was a ploy by the track manufacturers to save money less prep, less clips = more money in there pockets :o|

I was there and he wasn't very happy. Get it clipped even though the guy from tracks USA said it wouldn't make a difference unless your Lake ripping which is exactly what your gonna want!!

yeah this happened on my sx 700 I was ripping across Houghton Lk MI. and stopped for a smoke and when got ready to fly the sled wouldnn't move the track was stuck to the hyfax I had to slam it to the ground like it was froze to free her up that really sucks :o| :o|

A friend of mine picked up his Vector GT last week. (still waiting for mine)
We are thinking of puntching out the closed windows and adding the clips.
With the track sitting flat on the floor, most of the rubber between clips is
rubbing the hifax. I would think there would be less friction and heat between a steel clip and hifax than rubber. I read in some of the posts that hifax life is short. I think the extra clips would help slow down the wear.

For a mountain track DONT Clip is My Recomendation

Clips add ROTATING mass this requires MORE power
I recomend having open windows clipped every second window and add 2 or three one inch holes to your track on each pitch this pulles about 3 pounds of rotating mass out of your track it runs cleaner faster but probably not longer

In my neck of the woods a fully clipped open window track increases slider wear in marginal snow. A closed window track retains snow against the sliders for better lube & longer life.

My 2 cents....

At the beginning of the last season, the hifax wear was just terrible on my RS venture. I was also feel the restriction when slowing down. After just 1500 kms, the rubber patch that rubbing on the hifax between the clips was 1-2mm grooved. By the way, my track tension was looser than spec.

So i first punch out all blocked holes and run an other 1000 kms, the improvement was really there but the hifax still tend to stick on cold weather trails, especially at the beginning of the day when there are few loose snow on the trail.

Then i fully clipped it , the better thing i made on this sled. The improvement was amazing, i was able to run in almost no loose snow condition (icy lakes) at decent speed without any trouble. The sled feel a lot less restriction when i slowed down and the gaz mileage was also improved. Ride 8000 kms last season and my last hifax set (eom) did 6500kms ( i killed them in terrible conditions on the last rides at spring).

A trusty guy i know fully clipped is 2005 RX1 track and see improvement in all condition including top end on radar run.

It make no sense in my mind to let rubber rub on the hifax. Rubber don't slip !!!! it just make friction and steal you HP ... It just make manufacturers put some $$$$ in their pockets (track cheaper and hifax sales).

bye
