I am currently running a track that has all the windows open, but is only clipped every third.

I have been running this track using intro/extro drivers for 1400 miles, and everything is fine. However, I have heard that if the track is fully clipped, that I can extend my hyfax wear ... the sacrafice being added weight.

Can someone really tell me the what the performance difference is between fully clipped, and clipped every third?

Also, if I want to add clips, can that be done without removing the skid?

This subject seems to always have alot of opinions but here's my take on fully clipped vs. clipped every third tracks concerning hyfax wear. Heat is a major factor in the life of hyfax and depending on snow conditions each style track has advantages/disadvantages but it mainly comes down to the type of snow conditions the track is used in. For example if you run in poor snow conditions or alot of bare lake/plowed road running the fully clipped tracks tend to run cooler (due to more clips to dissapate the heat) and will make the hyfax last longer. In those conditions a clipped every third track will heat up the clips faster and wear the hyfax away quicker. Now if you run in optimal conditions (powder or groomed trail with plenty of snow) the every third clipped tracks have better hyfax wear as they then run cool enough to take advantage of less clips raking down the hyfax every revolution. The biggest challenge to this is that most people ride in all of the conditions above at one time or another but you should concentrate on what the majority of your riding conditions are and pick the track clip type that works the best for the type of riding. Hope this info helps.

Yes you can clip any track from 1.25 down in track lug height, any taller than 1.25 and its hard to make the clip hold,as you have less materail to bend down around the rubber lug,if you clip the camoplast ripsaw, cut it down to 1" lug height, than clip the remainder of the windows, you cut open, but it still is a ripsaw and not a perditor,as the preditor tracks are a stiffer duromitor rubber, and they are much tuffer than the softer rip saw,the reason the rip saw works so well is the soft rubber grips well, plus the added 1/4 " of 6 pitch design.

Thanks for the well-explained posts guys!

I would like to think that I'm running in powder or nicely groomed trails all the time - but I think I would just be kidding myself. :ORC Looks like I will be clipping the rest of the track this summer.
