FX Nytro RTX 08
Hi all,

I've tried searching the forum for a thread explaining my particular problem but came up short.

Here's the problem:

Three weeks ago my fully functioning sled, -08 FX Nytro RTX, was parked with the ignition set to power and the kill switch up (honest mistake). Yesterday when I tried to start it, obviously the power was completely out, not even enough power to light up the instrument panel.

I then tried to jumpstart the sled with another battery, didn't work either. I then removed and charged the original battery and reinstalled it, the battery measured 14V on a meter before reinstalling it. So the battery is fine.

After reinstalling the original battery (i've also tried another fully functioning battery) the ignition fuse (20A) blows continously, regardless of the position of the key/ignition and the kill switch. To clarify; the fuse blows the instant I place it in its correct position in the fuse box regardless of key and kill switch position. I therefore cannot turn the key even to attempt to get instrumental let alone starting power.

S0omething is clearly shorthed in the system but I have no idea what it could be. I've tried a 30A and a 40A fuse and the same problem occurs.

When I parked the sled everything was funtioning 100%, what's happend since is:

Cause:
  • Power outage
  • Attempted but failed jumpstart
  • Removal, recharge and reinstallation of battery
Effect:
  • Ignition fuse (20A) blows out when put in its place
Does anyone please have any solution to this??

Regards from Sweden!

Carl

Problem ostensibly solved.

Solution to this problem was firstly that the ECU was shorted. So I replaced it with a new one and the sled fired up. Shortly after the though the sled indicated error code 46,unnormal power supply to ECU. Turns out the sled was charging almost 18V on idle so I replaced the voltage regulator and now everything seems fine.

I still have no idea what caused all this in the first place. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around a faulty ECU and regulator due to power outage?

If you have a pile of miles on the sled... check the harness for a rub thru or short. Check under the bars by the tank... its a good place to hide a short.

Turns out the fault indeed was a rub thru on the harness. After buying a new harness and installing it, everything works perfectly!
