I put Yamaha's Sport Bumper and Flotation plate kit on this fall on my 09 XTX with powder hound skis. I got to use it this weekend up in the UP on the TY ride.

The plate and bumper are a quality kit, with good instructions and hardware.

The new bumper is much stronger and wieghs about the same. The sled is alot easier to move around with the bigger bumper, especially when you get stuck.

The plate works great for floating the front end and deeper powder was no problem. The only this is you must cut out the bottom as the instructions show. I ommitted this part and ended up filling the plate with snow and ice to the point that the clamps broke and it looked like my sled was going to have a baby. I removed a bowling ball size chunk of ice and rode the rest of the weekend with it off.

I will let you guys know how it works with the holes cut in after my next ride but so far I am pleased with the kit.

Good to hear! I don't really like the look of the big flotation plate that much but perhaps you could post a pic or two of it on your machine! If it works well like you say that one could perhaps be convinced!!

Like I said. Be sure to make the cuts outs in the bottom as the supplied template shows or you may be sorry later. I assumed if it really needed it the plate would have come that way. Never Assume! It should work great now. I will get more pics wit the cut outs as soon as I get it back on the sled.

Thx for posting pics! That actually doesn't look too bad! What area are you talking about when you say make sure you cut it out? Are the instructions clear enough on that?

It comes with a paper template. You make three triangle shaped cuts in the bottom to let excess snow, ice and water (melted snow and ice) out. This way it does not build up between the bottom of the sled and the belly pan.

I know its not for every one but I think it actually improves the look of the sled, and definitely enhanes its performance.

Would you mind taking a pic of the bottom of the sled? I'm wondering how far the sides of the plate extend out over the bottom of the side panels.

i fitted mine without cutting the hole hope i am not going to regret it. It seemed to me that it would make the performance of the plate less effective :o|

Here is a pic of the cut outs. Like I said, mine came with a paper template and instructions stating you may want to cut out the bottom to prevent ice build up. The instructions claim this will not hinder performance.

I would say it provides the same protection as a skid plate with the added bonus of flotation. I don't like that I had to cut holes in the bottom, but I have yet to get it back on the sled to really see where they ended up.

I'll get it on tommorrow and post a pic.

Here are the pics of the plate with cut outs installed on the sled as promised. Hope this helps.
