Folks, we are asking for some FX Nytro feedback from those that have had the chance to get some miles on. If you own an FX Nytro and are willing to give a few minutes of your time, simply click on the link for the survey.

I would ask you to word your answers carefully and be considerate. I don't want to have to 'moderate' any comments because of harsh language or inappropriate content. Rest assured, all good info will be collected and heard by the right people.

If you don't own an FX Nytro model, please don't click the link, it'll just skew the data... Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Just did the survey and it was good. I found that there should have been a place to write some comments.

There are 2 things that I would like to have adressed (not any big problems but I would like Yamaha to know about them)

1: When running at a higher speed and let of the trottle and give full trottle again in a specific speed (I think that it is that the RPM is at the same place, but it is hard to see on the meter..) there is a significant hesitation (feels like the first half of a secund off WOT I am riding a Phazer and then I have all the ponies. Talked to my dealer and they contacted Yamaha Sweden (because we are 3 that has the same problem) and they didnt know what causes this.

The tek had taken a look at one with the hesitation, and adding CO didnt help. The only thing he could think of was that they got alittle to little gas in a spesific rpm.

One of the sleds have 800km on it so the break in is done and the sled still hesitated.

2: The edge of the welds in the front of the tubular part of the chassie is rusty and if I look at them it looks like the paint hasnt stuck to tha edge of the welds. The welds and the tube is black but the edge between them has no paint on them. I understand that it has nothing to do with the performance and durability of the sled but in my mind it is NOT something that I thought Yamaha would have.

This is my third Yamaha and the fit and finish is great but things like this is really anoying because it can not be a tough fix in production and there is the same problem with rust on the Phazer.

Love my sled otherwise

Cheers Erik

completed the survey, i'll have the wife fill one out for hers as well. is someone looking into the mtx's not being friendly on the trail in stock trim?

i have the stock skis, played with shimming them for front/rear bias, front limiters, spring settings on all four shocks, alignment/toe, and this thing has no trail manors at all. i understand it is a mountain sled but, we do have to ride trails to get to the play areas.

on the turn of the coin my wife's mtx has slydog powderhounds on her mtx and it has great trail manors and has only needed alittle more ski pressure to make it a great riding sled on and off trail.

i have played with mine to no end and cannot get comfortable riding it in the trail, constantly darting and hunting for lines. even on fresh groom, hard set up, no other tracks on the trail. to put it blountly, it is like riding a bull. the front end of this sled does not know where it wants to go, and when it gets there it doesnt want to be there. to offset this i have ordered a new set of skis to try to tame the bull.

a few other things i am dissapointed in is, the absence of a pivoting handle bar riser set up for rider adjustibility. the non rebuildable rear shocks (how long does yamaha think these will last, and what will the replacement costs be at that time?) no adjustments to compression or rebound for any of the shocks like the short track fx nytros have std. for a flagship mountain segment sled i think yamaha overlooked a few things in this dept.

both of our sleds have the rust on the front frame member welds issue and my wife believe it or not bent a spindle. we had no large impacts so i am guessing these are a weak link as well needing some sort of reinforcement. at close to 200 per spindle it's a steep price to pay for a possible weak link in the suspension.

dont get me wrong, overall i am happy with the sleds but, i have had to do alot to them to get them from the box stock to fit our riding styles, more so than i have had to with past models yamaha or otherwise. with every new model there will be teething pains, and i know i am integeral part of the system and to get the benefit for all i have to give feedback, the above is is mine. ski

I just completed the survey.

I too have the rust appearing on the sides of the welds on the frame. Hope it is only surface rust and doesn't go any further. I'll probably spend some time this summer with a wire brush and a little paint.

No questions/comments on the track for the MTX model.....would have liked to express the opinion of a different track. I really think a 16" wide Camoplast Challenger would be much better than the 15" Maverick.....

Sounds like they are focusing on the biggies though, including the storage and carrying capacity for the tunnel. I would like an under tunnel exhaust so the top is clear for gear and gas. In the back country, it's a MUST!!

Overall, very happy with this sled. Great carver, excellent handling in the fluff, and cheap to operate so far!!!!

:jump:

Count me in with the rust looking stuff on the welds of my front clip. I remember seeing it when it was brand new and wondering what the deal was.

Also, should have had something in the survey about the front a-arms. My dealer has noticed them twisting along with bending spindles on the sleds we're prepping to race.

Number of other items,
1. My Nytro puked oil out of the airbox because it was overfilled from the factory.
2. My throttle momentarly stuck a couple times on my first few rides. I barely missed smacking right into a large landscape rock at the trailhead because of it. I ended up adjusting the barrels on the throttle cable to fix it.
3. The rear shocks on the base model FX Nytro cannot keep up with the front end. They bottom out like crazy.
4. Reverse gear is often difficult to engage unless you physically rock the sled.
5. My difference between my low and high beam is totally ineffective on the trail. The high is too high while the low is too low. I've not messed with adjusting my headlight because the fricking dimmer switch broke off just like on my Vector (my upper torso hit it while slamming through the whoops). Please, please, please go to a different style of dimmer as the old ones were far more durable. Is there any way I can get Yamaha to send me a new, grey plastic dimmer button? You guys want like $80 for a whole new control block and all I need is the button.
6. I prefer the heat exchangers run under the running boards as they keep them clear of ice & snow.
7. The plastic bushings for the a-arms are not durable.
8. The fuel range sucks as compared to my Vector. The sled should have come with a 10 gal tank. I've not yet been able to go over 100 miles on the stock tank.
9. The stupid #*$&@ plastic fasteners used to hold the lower body work on are totally unacceptable! I'd much have preferred screws (like a Vector) since they are reuseable over many times and easier to remove.
10. The stock windshield is pretty much worthless. More wind protection would be nice, although I know its difficult to incorporate good wind protection with a sled that looks cool.
11. No teather switch, why?
12. More storage would be very welcomed!
13. Dang, can't believe I forgot to mention the worthless stock 5" wide skis. They totally blow or off-trail riding and are the primary reason why anyone who first tries a Yamaha thinks they are heavy because the skis immediately knife in when riding in any unpacked snow. Mine are only halfway acceptable for hard trail riding.

All in all I really do like my sled, primarily because of the motor performance and ergos. The ride and handling leave a bit to be desired but nothing that cannot be fixed. You guys have a good thing going with the Nytro. I hope you keep developing sleds for this market segment.

Damn AKrider, Don't hold back let it all out!

lol j/k I agree with many of your concerns.

While no it's NOT perfect it isn't having the issues of some other first year models from this year OR past years.....
I will say it's the first Yamaha to get me buy one in a LONG time. I knew the engines were good but after going Rider forward in 04 I wouldn't go back at almost any price above FREE!
The FX Nytro was aimed directly @ the Rev and it hit it with a "Bull's Eye", both on the trail and on the hills!

i guess im the only one who like's those plastic fastners..i find better than screws..
the nytro is very economical to run and a joy to drive congrats to yamaha as i will never own a 2 stroke again.
1..larger gas tank
2-better track(stiffer)for eastern powder riders
3-better shock options like on the shorties

Will you let us know the results of the feedback in say a bar graph??? It would be very interesteing to know.

am I the only one who really likes their nytro? Maybe it is because even with all my gear I am only about 150#and it seems to work well for me.

We switched it to powder hounds right off the bat and so I had difficulty with a little push at first, dialed in a little more ski pressure and it seems fine. It pushes a little in trails but I expected that with the 153" since I came off of a 136.

Revs are right on the money for me, must have gotten a good one! throttle response is great, you would have to ask ski about the clutching as I have not a clue what he did to it.

I did already bend a spindle so we may need to stock a couple here at the house and they are about $200 a pop so that could get expensive.

Looked at a shorty nytro on the showroom floor today and it was already starting to rust at the welds, will have to watch that area and liberally use wd-40

Would like the hand warmers to get a little warmer, did not think the wind was too much of a problem with the mid-height windsheild.

Husband ran his out of gas at 97.5 miles, I got 100 out of mine with a little gas left, again probably the weight difference. The mods he did to put the skidoo gas can on the tunnel extension are working fine, so with the extra 3 gallons I am not worried about the mileage but a 10 gallon tank would be nice.

Over all I really like the sled, I love the 4 stroke and electric start. Glad my hubby talked me into the new sled!

forgot one very important thing this sled needs badly.... STORAGE. we have no trunk, cant put a hat, extra tools, goggles, snobungie, food, safety gear, anything of weight or size on this sled anywhere. you can only put so much in a backpack. the apex has TONS of storage in the seat. my wife came from a 136" renegade and it had more storage than a 153" tunnel on this sled. whats wrong with that picture?

on the gade you could haul a gas can and a tunnel top bag for lots of storage. ski

I'm in agreement with most of the above comments. One Thing I'm very disappointed with is the headlight. I keep switching back and forth from hi to low beams, trying to find out which one is better ( they both are terrible). Get out in some deeper snow and the lights go out instantaniouly, the front end is designed similar to a BOSS snowplow, causing the snow to pack over the headlight and stuff in every nook and cranny thats wide open. As someone previously mentioned, this is a MNT sled we will use them in deep, loose snow. WE NEED SCREENS TO STOP THE INJESTION!

Wow I can not believe the complaints of trail manners. I agree the rear suspension is softer and why make it softer than the Vector? I am just used to the darting as everyone calls it??
I love the mtn skis!!!

I put the tall windshield on and helps with wind alot while trail riding but it puts the snow in your face when standing :(

Hand warmers could be better.

And the track is lousy no traction at all. Go back to the challenger track and get us a track too.

Better shock should be on it. The competition uses way better shocks.

For 10 grand we should be getting good shocks.

Just completed the survey, wanted to add a few things. I've got 1145 kms on mine to date, riding mostly in powder, sometimes VERY deep, and a bit on groomed trails (to get to the untouched powder only). IMO, the RTX should come with an optional Intense Powder 1.5" lug track on 121" models, my butt dyno is reading at least a 20 hp increase with this track on the sled !!! It's a perfect match for the power and torque of this machine, hook up is amazing ! Also, the stock skis dart unless the rubber blocks inside the saddles are turned around 180 degrees, thus relieving pressure on the front of the skis and applying weight to the rear. Overall handling and cornering is not compromised with this modification either, just straight line improvement. A wider ski, say around 6" would be better for floatation as well. Handwarmers only work so-so in mild weather, anything around -10C or colder and they're very poor from my experience. I have my RTX set up the way I like it now, and with the changes I've made,
IT'S BY FAR, THE BEST SLED I'VE EVER OWNED !

Thanks for the opportunity to voice our findings Chris ;)!
