I saw a post but can not find it. What do you think the gas miliage will be. I believe I heard 100miles per tank ...to me that is not much?

This sled is not made for fuel mileage. It is a high strung sport sled with a motor that runs on premium pump fuel. Does anyone realize what kind of accomplishment 80hp out of a 4-stroke 500cc engine really is??

Yamaha Vector:
973cc / 120 hp = 8.11cc per hp

Yamaha Apex:
998cc / 150 hp = 6.65cc per hp

Yamaha RX-1:
998cc / 138 hp = 7.23cc per hp

Yamaha Phazer:
499cc / 80 hp = 6.23 cc per hp

Arctic Cat Z1: (V-twin)
1056cc / 123 hp = 8.58cc per hp

Well the R1 makes way more then twice that HP with twice the displacement and I'm sure it gets a lot better then HALF the fuel mileage. So, actually no that isn't such a feat.

You tell me where to find a R1 that cruises at 9,000 to 11,000 rpm mile after mile? It doesn't happen on a bike. Also tell me where a R1 has the same loads working against it as a sled does in snow? You're trying to compare apples and oranges.

R1 bikes can't be compared to sleds. Your only rarely at peak RPM and that's at the top of each gear. To go a given MPH takes way less throttle (hence way less fuel) on a bike with a regular trans, then a sled with a inefficient CVT tranny.
I have the full fuel mapping for the R6 and R1 bikes (factory tuning software) and there is quite a bit of fuel put into those motors at high RPM. But your never there for long. If you were able to hold it at high RPM for extended periods of time like you do on a sled, it would get some pretty poor milage as compared to regular riding.
I see people on here getting 16-18 MPG out of thier RX-1's. I get 12 or so. I am hard on that thing so it's pumping alot of fuel into the motor. If I were a cruizer type rider, I'd get much better milage too.

QCRider.. that pic in your avatar.. where is that?
That's a hold'er wide open until you run out of gas trail ;)

OK, so lets use the RX1 then. Sounds like you're beating it bad and getting 12 mpg. So half the CC's should get 24. That IS a direct comparison, sled for sled, cc for cc, same manufacturer. 13 mpg on a 500 cc engine is pretty bad, admit it. And you didn't address the main point that 80 HP out of 500 cc's is about what it should be. No David Copperfield here. 100 HP out of it would be a feat!

lets see, cats 660 non turbo started out at 45 hp and then was bumped up to an amazing 53hp. polarass 750 non turbo is 80hp.thats 50 percent more displacement for the same hp. than the phazer. both the cat and polarass sleds weigh 575-600lbs each compared to 450lbs for the phazer. take all 3 for a ride and buy the one that puts the biggest smile on your face. the phazer may not get the best mpg, but i bet it gets the most smiles per gallon.

Sorry, I shouldn't of called it "premium" fuel. Premium is different octanes in different areas of the world. It runs on 91 octane for greatest performance. You can run it on 87 octane but the Knock Control System will kick in and pull the timing curve back (resulting in a loss of 4 hp) for the lower grade fuel.
