Well not a how-to per se, but it'll do for those do it yourselfers, its not incredibly difficult
Well, I pulled the windshield off, and decided to follow another persons idea, and relocate the gauge to a "safer" location
BTW what a great mod, first new sled, I haven't even seen snow yet
and I'm modding it.. .but this was a given...
Some tips for those attempting this mod.(most of the tips will make sense once you look at things)
Measure Measure Measure, I was lucky enough to not make any major mistakes.
- I drew a template with paper, under the original bracket
- The holes for the posts I cut with 1/2" drill Spade/Paddle bit. One cause it was the closest size I had
to the bracket hole size, and two the pilot tip, ensures a centered hole(it wont walk)
- I didn't have to make the holes any bigger than the 1/2" the rubber grommets fit right in, and makes
for a much more secure snug fit.
-Cutting for the wiring, this is done freehand, and you have to allow for the rubber boot to fit snugly in the hole,
this takes time.
Roughly the job took about 1 hour, once I figured out how to get the panel off..
-BTW when pulling the panel off be careful, the rubber gromets will pull out.. then you have to remove
them from the posts, and reinstall them below.
Big Kudo's to Yammi for using reusable ZIP ties to contain the wires on the steering post. A++
Thats all I can remember for now, if you have questions, I can try and answer... I'm no pro, but it came out great.
Two pictures to follow, one is from the seated position, and the other is from a standing position, for reference,
I'm 5'10" the camera was at my face, and I was seated about half way back on the seat.

Is that mounted directly to the black plastic deal that surrounds the light? Or is it still on a bracket on the bars? Can't really tell from the pictures...

if you mounted that to the headlight piece, i wanna see more detailed pics please
I'm trying to come up with a way to relocate it to the backside of the bars. I'm in the design process of a bracket that will hold it on the back. I just haven't quite figured out what to do with the wires.
Wondering if I could just drill a big hole right through the riser and run the wires through the front to the backside where the gauge would be repositioned to. I just don't thing they're long enough.

well you could...but wouldn't that kind of screw up the strength of that riser? it's made full for a reason if you ask me...the wires would be long enough, if you lowered the gauge a bit.
using an aftermarket riser like powermadd's, they're hollow to start with, and that'd be easy, but you lose your mounting points

Funny I am moving my Apex gauge up to the riser so I can see it better.

I'll take some more pictures, the low light last night didn't bode well
Yes its mounted to the plastic.
You could flip the whole riser around and mount to the existing bracket holes
ActionJack I could understand why you'd want to see it better,
dropping it down, its still in your line of sight when seated,
and its in the exact same line of sight as stock, when standing.
I knew I stole the idea from somebody important... look closely

OK some more pictures.. Its not going to come off anytime soon.
The grommets that hold that plastic piece on are scary strong.
I chose to leave the foam on the underside of the piece.
as it must serve some function right?

Well I don't want my gauge to be the thing the is impacted first in a rollover but the stock Apex gauge is hard to see for me and I'm not tall and have the stock riser. I am also really hoping that the speedo will be more visible in the helmet cam video.
