What are you guys using in your chain case? Yamaha calls for 75 or 80 w gear oil. I've used 75/90 and 75/140 synthetic in the past. Does it really matter?

I'd say that 75/90 or 75/140 is fine. Everyone gets so amped up on chain case oil that has no rating on it. In my opinion it is just very high priced gear box oil. I have had good luck with M1 gear oil, have used it in my sleds for many seasons.

i use royal purple 75w90 or 75w140 in all our sleds now. used 80w90 for years with no problem. just find it moves more easily with the synthetic.

No matter what you use, if the chain is too loose it will create some damage. I use a 75-90 full syn.

They recommend running the chain really loose. I know last year I ran mine tighter than what they want.No matter what you use, if the chain is too loose it will create some damage. I use a 75-90 full syn.

I think we all had a consensus of finger tight then, "1 turn out". To be the sweet spot to not rub but not so tight to make the "wind" noise.
