Hi guys on my 07 Apex mountain I have a 23T top gear, and I think stock bottom 40T gear on it. I want to add reverse to this sled, so am going to buy a good use complete chaincase from a Apex gt. Now I know the gearing is going to be off. My question is I want to set up the new chaincase to have pretty much the same gearing that I have on my non reverse chaincase. So I know the reverse chaincases will have different teeth on the bottom say 38T for the bottom gear/ top gear anywhere from 22,23,24T. So being that my sled has the 40T stock bottom going to the 38T bottom what would I need for a top gear to have the same gearing, or close to the same gearing? Thanks!!

Another option would be to replace the 38T bottom gear designed for reverse with a 40T reverse bottom gear. They are a little more than the standard version gears but that is what I did on my RX-1 to maintain the ratio I had prior to adding reverse. Yamaha did not offer the black RX-1 with reverse; only the blue and red ones came with reverse.

Also forgot to mention you will be able to re-use your existing top gear when installing the reverse kit; only the bottom gear is different to handle the reverse gear.

I pretty much I will need to buy the 40t bottom gear that is made for reverse so I can have the same gearing right, as the 38T bottom would throw the ratio off to much?Another option would be to replace the 38T bottom gear designed for reverse with a 40T reverse bottom gear. 40÷23 = 1.739 ratio.
38÷22= 1.727 ratio, which is darn close. I've run both ratios in several mtx and couldn't tell any difference.
If on a budget go 22/38.

Question, have you tried the 40T with 24T top gear? Or would that be to much? I really do like the 40T/23T combo, as it lowed the RPM's down enough for trail riding so I am not burning up so much gas. I am just wondering how the 24T gear would be?
