First of all you need to put the make and year of your sled in your signature.
Secondly, I am not trying to be a smart #*$&@, you have to refer to your manual or get a manual if you don't already have one?
You drain the oil from both spots, empty your tank and your engine and remove and replace your oil filter.
Fill the tank with 1/2 or 2/3rd's of the recommended oil quantity, run engine a few minutes, let sit a few more then check oil with dip "NOT" screwed in, add remaining and check repeatedly until correct level is acheived.

thank you i have a (2) 2006 apexs (1) GT (1) ER. i have the manual but i like to make sure im reading it rite so i do not need to add oil to through the engin head. i just need to ad half or a lil more to the tank and start it to run it through the engin the check and add more to the oil tank.

That is correct, drain from both places, change the filter.
Then add 2/3rd's or 2 ltr's to the tank. start engine and let idle for a few, turn off then add remaining amount judging by the dip stick.
I have heard both about the top plug on the engine head,, some say "DO NOT" add oil here and some have said it is ok???
I just changed mine again today and added all my oil into the tank, 2ltr's then the remaining litre about 200-300 mils at a time until the correct level was achieved, I didn't even bother touching the head plug at all, seen no reason to imo.

Although I have the 3 cyl. my owners manual says to remove both dip stick and engine plug. Presumably to prevent vaper lock unless you leave it sit over nite with plug out . The engine drain is only 8mm. or 5/16"
Dealer changed oil during cam tensioner replacement and did not remove engine plugs, both our sleds. Added 3 liters ( this is correct amount ) both engines were over full at least by 8 oz.or about 200 ml when I syphoned them down to full line. Plus oil was almost as black as before change.
From now on as before I will be changing the oil.

When you say engine plug, are you referring to the drain plug or the vent plug on top of the cylinder head?
The one on the cylinder head is the one I didn't remove. The last time I changed oil I removed it but wondered why if I wasn't going to add oil there?
When I changed mine today I removed the oil tank drain bolt, the engine drain bolt and the engine oil filter and had no signs of a vapor lock.
I then used a floor jack and a piece of wood and carefully raised the sled up to get all remaining oil out of the engine and oil tank.
Doing this probably netted me at least another 1/2 litre of used oil.
This makes sense to me as my manual states to add 2 1/2 litres of oil with a filter change when doing a oil change but at the very bottom it states 3.2ltr's total?
I could never figure that out but now I know if you just drain the engine and tank and remove the filter then that is all the oil it will take to bring it back to the full mark, but if you tilt your sled up and get all the remaining oil out then it will take the full 3.2ltr's.
Screw all that crap just go outside in the driveway and start your SNOW DANCE, if we all believe it might just come true
