Any advice? Front mounts crack headers, rear mounts spool not quite as fast but I hear lag still is not that much more than a front mount. I am looking to not do any internal , motor mods yet other than head shim, What kinda boost can I run through my 03 RX1 with just head shim? Any brands I should not get or get? Pros and Cons? PM me if you know of someone selling a used complete kit I want at least 280hp for my RX1. Thanks, Justin

Everything depends on what fuel you want to run.
280 is not possible on pump fuel.
If your riding in the mountains, then a rear mount is just fine but most of the rear mount kits come with too small a turbo for anything over 220 hp.
I would suggest 12 psi boost with 2 head gaskets, and a GT2560R turbo wether rear mount or front mount.
With a front mount you will give up some fuel capacity so this is a consideration also.
I will have a solution to cracking headers this summer.
Ted.

go with a alpine turbo kit if you ride in the mountains, they have won every mountain shootout in the last 3 years! That says it all.

My rear mount worked really well last weekend there is lag though. Seen an alpine turbo that was with us catch on fire! The front mount was so hot melted the insulation off of the wires and caught fire.

LOL you fast? Anyone who has had both mcx and alpine will tell you they both have issues, and they both work great. Most people who run mcx are not after performance at the top of the game or they wouldnt go rear mount for lag issues. If both kits get run at the same boost they are each as reliable as the other. :ORC

hey mikey!! as you know we are flat over here, we had O issues other than oil line loose or heat on my fire cat hood!
I know it sounds like I am pushing the kit cause I sell it! But ask one of my clients who you know also ( matt) he was kicking #*$&@ all winter and his header is still new!!
I rode our other rear mount turbo at the end of season and I got to tell you..... WOW does it have lag compared to my front mount!!
Mike!! the prob I see is set up and install! once we got it right we never looked back!!
I love my front mount turbo!
take care

One of the biggest problems is the Definition of turbo lag in the eyes of the public.
It is the time between when you hit the throttle and the turbo reaches peak boost weather it is 7 psi or 20 psi, the higher the boost setting the longer it takes to reach Peak boost
1/10th of a second seems like an eternity when your buddy is out in front of you.
All turbo chargers have turbo lag regarless of there design, So anyone that says they have NO turbo lag does not know the definition.
Now if a Front mount is 1/10th of a second the Rear mounts can be up to a full second which I have personally witnessed on several different kits.
Like I said above, if 1/10 feels like an eternity what do you think a second feels like :exc:
When engineering a turbo system we chisel away at 1/100s of a second reduction in turbo lag at a time.
It will NEVER be completely eliminated only reduced.
Everyone has to accept the fact that there is a large difference in turbo lag on a rear mount compared to a front mount regarless of what any salesmen tells you.
