Was all hot n heavy for a new AC Turbo this year but was convinced by a lot of ex Apex owners in the AC Turbo forum of Hardcoresledder to wait and see what Yamaha comes out with next year.( Rocker Dan really put the nail in the coffin. ) SO GLAD I DID!!! Went lake riding all weekend with a bunch of sleds including a 13stock 1100 TURBO Crossfire and a canned and TD tuned Sno Pro. WTF is wrong with these sleds??? 4 broken belts between them!! 3 for the modded Sno Pro and one for the stock X fire. The Doos in our group didn't even blow belts. Every restaurant or bar I went to the AC guys were talking about their belts blowing out on the lake in their new turbos or 800's. I for one hope Yamaha doesn't merge in any way with AC !!!

Cat went from the "barney head" chassis(heavy)to there newer chassis(lighter)which in turn kills belts. You can run 550HP through the stock drive system of a yamaha, hows that for durabilty .

Like the pic shows and this guy is in his 70s , lots of moanin on HCS , boys are starting a BBB complaint and letters to the Mn Atty General.
He was towed back by a 06 Apex w/8600 miles , we were also in the market for a 1100 Turbo this year , if rumors come true we all might be having to stock up on belts for 2014.

You stole my life!! Hehe same boat as you rode an Apex xtx back to back with a Cat Turbo. Xtx was good but man that Cat is a fun sled (sorry guys). Rocker said the same to me when I posted over there and after further reading there are some very unhappy guys over there. I'm hoping Yam goes big in '14fourload said:Was all hot n heavy for a new AC Turbo this year but was convinced by a lot of ex Apex owners in the AC Turbo forum of Hardcoresledder to wait and see what Yamaha comes out with next year.( Rocker Dan really put the nail in the coffin. ) SO GLAD I DID!!! Also Chris Reid from Yam says no merger.

Bad secondary setup on the Cat! Aftermarket secondary and problem solved! Why cat marches on with out changing the secondary is puzzling but like Yami sometimes they have their head in the sand. Way to many Nytro riders still complaining about the weak front end design and the list goes on.
And for those who say that you should not have to go after market to fix the problem your right but its way cheaper then continuing to buy 300 dollars worth of belts every weekend. For a few hundred bucks you can make it right.
My 2 cents from what I have read.

I too was thinking about trying something different ,something lighter with about the same power as an apex...800 2-stroke...and the only one that i think would stay together for any length of time would be the arctic cat in my opinion,so i ask owners about the pro's and con's over on HCS and was that ever a wake-up call....i had no idea that the 800 was such a piece of s#!& ,i had heard a lot of negative things about the turbo but not the 800....now before anyone gets all bent out of shape over this post go over and read the thread on HCS Titled: Thinking about switching brands, some of these guys even pm'd me to tell me how bad these sleds are....couldn't believe it!! I have decided to stick with yamaha weight and all, they may have a few issues but if what these guys told me is true(and i believe it is) they have no issues compared to these guys.

There are two members here that jumped ship last year and got the Cat Turbo. One sold his last week and bought an Apex with me yesterday while the other sold his cat today. He's now looking for a deal like we got on our Apex's. What does this tell you??

I am buying a new FJR instead this year , at this rate the Apex will run 5 or more years , will let the test mules with deep pockets and long green do the shakedown cruise.

I went to the turbo Cat last season and so far I have been happy. Mine is all stock and has 1200KM on the original belt so far. Belt looks good as new. One minor issue this season due to a pinched wire after the reverse update but nothing else. I find HCS seems to be a whining board more than anything else.

Belts are stupid priced for one shouldn't be 240 a belt (canada) when all the other ones are like 100 or 80, TEAM the guys making the secondarys are now saying that it is not the ultimate fix there finding there still is lots of heat on the belt and clutches after this. Seem like these sleds need more vents to get the the engine and turbo out as turbo love to run hot ask any car guy with a turbo they run hot. 500 miles on my first belt but first 100 200 miles i took it easy getting used to the sled than after that i was nailing it from a stop cat walking from anywhere racing along and driving it like my nytro. Sled is much more fun and way better handling and suspension than that nytro is hopefully the belts stay on a little longer but when im running 250hp plus this is what happens.

So is it just the 1100 turbo's that are blowing belts or are the 800's blowing them as well?

I good buddy here just got his F1100 trubo back from the stealer... had a # of recalls done... and they are saying that that if they run the Non turbo belt, alot fo the probs go away... i guys the non turbo belt is 7/8" longer... not sure if this is true, but this is what local dealer is doing with the turbo sleds.... and his sled sat there for 6 weeks this winter.... i just laughed..
