2003 Yamaha RX-1
Went out for a ride with two friends Sunday and within a few miles of the cottage the first guy's Ski-Doo starting sounding funny and then puked anti-freeze all over the trail. This is after being serviced the week before for starter and idling problems. We went back for a trailer, got that sled home and he hopped on a spare sled and things were good until the other guy's brand new Polaris quit. It has 400kms and it feels like the engine is seized, can't turn it over at all. Good thing there was a Yamaha to pull him back to the place he bought it and now he's waiting to hear if it's going to be days or weeks before it is fixed.

Worked with the cops this weekend. They blew two Rev XP's in two days.

LOL. Bet you could have got away with murder after towing them home.

On a side note. I hope these I ride a Yamaha and never get towed threads don't bite us I. The assignment. They are great reliable sleds. I am comfortable going solo 1000 times more then my old ski-doo. But we should be moderate in the bragging.

I totally push the yamaha reliability and high mile sleds butgotta respect carma.

I agree, I don't push the Yamaha thing on them but hope that they start doing the math. I went pretty easy on them other than insisting on a picture. I forgot to mention that another friend was invited and he has two Revs but they are both in North Bay for repairs after he went up to Sudbury a few days before. I don't know all the details but even with a spare sled he couldn't make it.

Edit: Only one of the Doos went down with an electrical problem but there were two sleds / two riders so that killed the fun pretty quick.

Here is a Cat towing a Machz 1000 this weekend. The funny part of it is the AC broke its clutch at the very end of the tow. Two Down. I helped push up 1 hill and I think that Mach z is as heavy as my Apex!!!!

Update: The guy with the new Polaris got a call from the dealer and the motor is blown with just over 400kms and three rides on it. Dealer told him he was lucky because warranty would have ended February 23rd....but he didn't feel that lucky. Also said that he was going to talk to Polaris about putting bigger jets in because he has seen this before and thinks it was running too lean. It's just a 600 'Shift' being driven very moderately, hope this is a fluke and not going to happen to him again.

as long as ur willing to tow the dead sled (whatever brand) then good karma is on your side..... ;)!

That was the first time I have towed anything and we went about 3 miles on rough trail so I was fully expecting to need a new belt but I didn't smell any burning rubber, it looks okay (no black dust) and measures 33.8mm (spec is 32-5 - 34.5) so I think maybe just leave it alone? Does that sound good or am I missing anything?

I started towing a sled that had a locked up chaincase with the rider on it. After a 100 ft they stopped me! Got it up to 20mph and if I had not looked in the mirror I would have kept going. No belt squeal at all. Yamaha clutching is spot on!

I can attest to that. One of my riding buddies has a Mach Z 1K. With electric start they are only about 25 lbs lighter than the Apex according to the maxsled wet weight test. He gave up on his Rev 800 after two engine rebuilds and a fire all in one season. Thus far he has been pretty lucky on the Z engine-wise, but has gone through 2 recoils and now a starter. I should note that the Z has a fresh motor in it as of last season.

Since I've had my apex, my buddies have gone through 5 blown motors, 3 recoils, one starter, 3 injectors, and a crap ton of 2smoke oil. I get a LOT of crap from them for having the 'heavy' 4 stroke but thus far, she has always brought be home, every single ride. I dont wanna jinx it, so I never really mention it, and would never kick a guy when he is down and his sled is being towed home, but in the back of my head Im thankful I am riding the yami!
