Couple questions first...
1. I have the four Phazer tunnel panels on my sled (www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/accessories/ ... etail.aspx), should these be removed if I cover the holes?
2. Should I cover both holes or just the rear one?
3. What gauge did you guys use?
Thnx for the help.

Buy the Yamaha kit because it comes with extensive heat shielding for the seat and side panels, also the rivets are stainless and the tunnel enclosure fits perfectly, well worth the 80 bucks. Remove the rear panels to allow extra airflow. If you are going to enclose the front drill some holes in the heat shield where it bends down and has a rubber piece attached to it for cross ventilation. If you have the aluminum panels with louvers, leave it on, the plastic one has to go if that's the case. I also wrapped my pipe from the manifold back to keep the heat in the pipe. This allows for a faster expulsion of exhaust gasses (more power) and helps to keep the heat in the pipe. I have 800 km (500 miles) on this mod and have had no issues. Hope this helps!

Does the front hole cause some of the ice buildup on the tunnel or is it just the rear one? Thats the main reason why I want to close them off, I get sick of have 30+ lbs of ice on my sled

Yeah, it'll keep the ice out of the front part of the tunnel and keep the cooler free of ice.

Talk to a few of your buds and somewhere, someone has an old junker behind their house or shed that would make a perfect tunnel plate !!! I found a late 90's V-max SX that was rotting at a freinds house, asked him, he said giver man !!! So I dug the frame out, took a wire wheel to the tunnel to buff it abit. Measured out the size that I needed and let the saws-all rip everybodys eardrums apart !!!! In the end it cost me the manual labour to dig the frame out of the snow and cut the plate, the cost of a couple of wackey tobacky's and a Red Bull !!! Just ask around, you might get lucky !!! It will look good, save you 60-8- bucks and you can say "I made it myself".
Even a piece of alum out of an old highway sign will do the trick.

All I want to do is stop the wet boots & pants & ice on front of running boards! Do I need to close the whole tunnel or just the front?
My Daughters both get wet pants!

Spend the $80 on gas instead ... a bit of aluminium facia from a building supply store works fine - covered both holes - added a bit of additional heat shielding around the tank.
