Here's a funny one regarding warranty work.. The starter on my viper went out this past winter, dealer had the parts right on hand, they're both an AC and yamaha dealer. Now my buddies 7000 had the starter pretty much shot at the end of the season. Took it to the same dealer, they put in the parts claim, parts were back ordered for a couple months through cat, now obviously all the starter parts are exactly the same for the yami and cat version, the "yamaha" parts were available but the "cat" parts were not and cat wouldn't allow them to use the yamaha parts..keep in mind all parts are identical. Something even more strange was that the same exact parts through AC were $120 more than the parts through yamaha. So fast forward 5 months later, all the AC parts finally show up, here's the best part, take a look at the packages, everything looks normal, AC tags and part numbers, open them up and everything is packaged in sealed yamaha packages. Good thing is was 5 months in the summer, would've been a shame to have it happen in the winter and not be able to ride your sled at all because of that screwy deal.

It's all in the distribution. I am 100% sure that as part of Yamaha's deal with AC that they would supply parts to the AC dealers but at their chosen cost. It obviously wasn't part of the deal to offer up Yamaha parts if the AC dealers chose not to fill their supply chain with warranty parts. Once they realize the common warranty replacements, they should backfill their inventory. But keeping starters on hand, would be admitting that there is a problem!

I'm glad my dealer kept the parts on hand, cuz they did 5 possibly 6 starters last winter, so there's definitely a problem.

Every time I stopped at the dealers this summer we'd kinda joke about it that it's all just yamaha parts anyways, but saying it as a joke, we didn'tactually think the yamaha parts were just gonna come repackaged with cat labels on them.

Maybe an oversite... but still funny.

Yep all in the agreement with Cat. Same parts you can be certain that agreements on cost and how many are allotted are there. When I worked for Quantum long ago I used to go down on the loading dock and watch them package DLT back up drives, and marveled at how changing a sticker and the box could make the drive worth thousands more.;)

I guess it's a good heads up for anyone that owns a cat 7000 series sled, if your starter goes bad and isn't covered under warranty, order all parts through yamaha, that's what you're getting anyways so mights well save a few bucks

Odd. Yamaha gave approval to use cat parts on a Yamaha for warranty more than once at my dealer who is also Cat and Yamaha. Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. Was hoping would go both ways since it would be best for the customer which is supposed to be #1 !

I would of bought the Yamaha starter outright to have the AC guys put it in under warranty before missing the whole season if that would of happened in the winter
