got my timbersled rear skid

survival gear (ie: probe, shovel, beacon, ect...)should go on your person (especially the beacon), or backpack strapped securly to you. if you are in an avalanche, and get seperated from the sled and cannot find the sled, you have no tools to help yourself or others. ski

Good point, I guess I meant rope, tools, first aid and the like. Like you said, I always have the probe, shovel, beacon, on me. But I am not putting a 50 or 100 ft rope, 10 lbs of tools, ski brakes, and an extra thing of water on my back.

Thanks for the clarification. Avy gear always goes on the person!

That's not bad for the exahust mod. I too want to utilize under the seat for storage. Have to start building something. Ruffryder, I have the extra header / pipe & muffler & had 2" tubing bent & have bent the pipe to the correct angle. I have to make the measurements for the side outlet in the tunnel now & mount everything. If this LCC exhaust works without plugging up or could be modified for a side tunnel exit, it may be the way to go since my way wouldn't lose any weight. I'll be looking into more things now. I did build me a homemade rack for the tunnel. Came out pretty nice for an hour job & $20 material.

There's no magic in the undertunnel exhaust, they are really simple to make. I put one on my Vector using a 12" long glass pack. I just had the inlet flange stretched to fit the stock header, welded a mounting bracket on it and bolted it up. Done like 40 bucks and under 4 lbs. When I did my Rx1 single under tunnel I got fancy and had it ceramic coated. I wouldn't waste my money on that again. I'd post some pics of the Vector but the sled got stolen. The only reason I don't have one on my Nytro yet is that guys I've seen who have them on Apexes the fuel injection gets confused when riding deep snow.

are they able to tell that by their Air Fuel Gauges? or is it just restricting the exhaust?

This is on non turbo sleds so no A/F guage they just start to run like crap. Pretty much you can tell it is too fat when it clogs with snow. My Rx1 used to do it once and a while too.

It is important to remember engines are basically air pumps. Air goes in, and air goes out. If air can't go out... engine stops working, because the air can't get in. Exiting out to the side of the tunnel seems to be the best option.

I would love to here how it sounds.

.

On a mountain sled I'd have to agree, for a trail sled a guy could probably get away with having it dump in the tunnel as I've not seen or had any problems on the trail, not to say that it couldn't happen I just haven't seen it myself. You'd think that if the tunnel dump was the hot ticket for all applications Yamaha would have done it just to help keep the noise levels down on the sleds. They could easily make an exhaust that would fit in there.

Yamaha has tried the tunnel dump. The reason they do not useit is they were afraid someone would let their sled idle for a long time and they might damagethe track. I've ran a tunnel dump on my turbo vector for 2-yrs and had zero problems the majority (90%) of my riding is boondocking in the mountains. I currently have a tunnel dump on my T-Nytro and I have not had any ill effects in performance.

Can you shoot us some pics of it, from teh top, and from inside the tunnel? would love to see what is working for deep powder...

I run a tunnel dump on my front mount turbo sled as well and it works great but the turbo sled really pushes the exhaust out of there under some serious pressure. When running, it is always right on but if I get it stuck I need to dig out the exhaust to help it restart if I'm stalled. On the N/A sleds the tunnel dump is at the rear at the end of the muffler not straight down like on my turbo, I just found that on the N/A sled it wasn't perfect but it worked. The fuel injected sleds seem to be even more finicky about it than the carbed ones, from everything I've seen.

ok, pulled the skid, took off the seat, trim, doghouse, exhaust ect... no pics yet sorry. gonna get a plate made to block off the tunnel to keep snow off the bottom of the seat. once the skid is assembled and the exhaust is in place it can go to the seat people to let them do their magic. i can honestly say if this works the way i think it is going to, the possibility for a very large apex mountain type seat storage is a reality to say the least.

the weight difference from can to can is about 10 pounds. after you figure, pipe cut, side trim off, and doghouse removal, mounts and clamps, figuring about 5 more pounds. ski

Here are some quick pic's. I would probably had routed it a little differently had I designed it , but I haven't had any negative issues with it yet. I just put a sheet of aluminum to cover the hole where the stock exhaust went through the tunnel. Before you put a heavy apex seat on I would enclose the space that is under the existing seat. It will give you more storage and a better seat. ( I used to have an Apex seat on my Vector)

thsi looks really interesting...can you either show a drawing from the top down, or more detail on what we are seeing ont eh left side there?

it appears you have a shroud of some sort over the 180 degree turn back...not quite sure, but this looks really good...

so you are going mufflerless right? How is noise ? idle? WOT?

BTW, get the drop brackets from TImbersled,($80 or so) and will save you 8 lbs. off those tank reinforcement chunks Yammie put in there...
