so while out riding today, my cell phone died. not that it really mattered cause there was no service anyway. however, my goggles kept fogging during the ride home and this almost tripled the time it took me to get back home. so to say the least, my wife was slightly upset that I was over 4 hours late coming home and she hadn't heard from me.
short of following her recommendations to sell my sled, im looking for some type of GPS locator to carry with me for her piece of mind. i don't think i need something that updates real time, just something that pings occasionally and that she could log on to from home and see that im progressing along.
I did a little research but everything I found comes with monthly charges...anyone using anything like this and what are you using????
have you thought about charging your phone on the sled? I use rocks smart supply and when the sled is running, I have never frozen my phone.

I plug a car charger into the acc outlet on my sleds and keep the phone wrapped in a sock with a hand warmer pack. Put the phone in my map case.

I'm sure the hand warmer packet helps, but I do doubt it's necessary in most cases. Most all phones generate enough heat by themselves when plugged in and charging. Whatever works for you though.
It's sort of funny how we have used Glympse since finding it.
Haydays, we have sent each other a Glympse just to find each other at such a large event. I have sent a Glympse to my friends when coming to parties, so they know if they can still hit me up for the last minute bag of ice.
When we head out on sled trips, it's a great way to really know just how close everyone is to our meeting point for loading up, so we can decide if there is time to take on fuel or make that last trip to the bathroom! (SMILE)
My wife and I have gotten into the habit of sending one whenever we are on the road for more than a half hour. It's amazing how many times I will go out of my way to make dinner knowing how far out she is, and she does the same thing. It's always cool coming home to dinner, just in time! So many hold off doing that not knowing when someone will actually make it home. My daughter never understand my ulterior motive when sending a Glympse once we get loaded and are leaving the woods.

I just installed Glympse, based on your recommendation. Pretty cool! I've tested it during the last few days while driving in the car. I typically don't have much cell coverage while riding, but I look forward to checking it out next time out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Glad you liked it. Biggest tip when using Glympse is having plenty of power. It can drain a battery as it is constantly monitoring GPS and cell signal while uploading those pings too the web appI just installed Glympse, based on your recommendation. Pretty cool! It won't use a pile of data, but it will use up some battery. So getting your hands on a small jump battery is still a strong recommendation
Ps. Anyone watching your Glympse will see exactly where you are and the speed you are traveling. So send your Glympse after stopping at the clubs in Hurley!
Good luck
I have an MCLocate unit in my Viper. It Transmit a signal all the time the unit senses motion. It can be tracked on a cell phone or computer. If the sled is stolen I can tell exactly where it is. If I am out riding my girlfriend can track it in real time to see i am still moving. I ride alone in the UP all the time and mostly at night. If I would ever to fail to check in she can direct authorities to my body for the funeral.
After 10 min of no moving it goes to sleep to prevent battery drain. It even tracks while it is in the enclosed trailer.
Bad thing is if she checks and it is sitting in front of a bar it will tell her how long I was there. The unit is about $350.00 and cost $79 per yr for the sevice.
