Had my Apex on the Dyno

Is it worth just shavingbthe head 20 thou lookin tomadd alittle extra for drags
I would never pull the head just to cut 20 thou. off the surface. IMO just too much work for "maybe" a couple of hp. Now if your talking port work too, then absolutely. But the decision lies strictly with the owner.

My guy would donsome port work also wht would be a decent gain donu think ho wise compared to stock? I also have a pc5 and ignition modual and sutch

Head work with good tune should put you right at 160-162hp.

Dam i shoukd already be over that with im intake mod and short intakes and sutch hurricane 180 kit 2011 apex

You didn't mention all that. Not gonna get into the hp wars between tuners and different dynos. You can see all my mods in my sig. On the dyno that I test at which is Dynotech Research, I was able to pull 162.5 hp without the Yamacharger. From my experience, Hurricanes dyno tends to read a little higher. If you can generate more than 162.5hp on the same dyno, your gonna be happy and I'll be impressed.

No hp war here lol. I kno daves numbers r hi. But the 2011 plus made 150nish stocm at dyno research i believe didnt it? I guess my question is do u kno how mutch hp increase iver ur baseline

The 2011+ machines were right about 150 with more midrange than the previous gen machines. Which is what the EXUP was supposed to do. I know there was a bunch of preseason hoopla over that D&D sled that made 160hp or something. The actual production sleds never came close to that. The shorter intakes and all that were supposed to be worth a few. Plus the 2nd gens were a little leaner which is why the pc3 n pc5 help as well. The thing about Hurricanes kit is they include a higher hp number along with the clutch kit. Strictly speaking you CAN'T get more hp out of a clutch kit. You can generate power more efficiently with a clutch kit which, puts more hp to the snow. I would like to see the results on Dynotechs dyno. For comparison purposes.
My increase over stock was about 12.5 hp with everything except the YC.

I have this 180 hurricane kit. I bought it without clutching. I used my own set up and tried it. I thought the engine would over rev with an extra 20 hp, well it didn't. I believe hurricanes dyno is a great story teller.
Although I can with this set up run ski for ski with a stock sidewinder.

Yes i believe ur right about a story teller. But it did work prity.good for me. I have ulmer clutching and had to put extra 3 washer in the heal

It was an early release 2011 Apex that dyno'd 163hp. It had some miles on it. One thing that stood out to me was the A/F was on the rich side, but that seems to be how an Apex likes it to pull off good top numbers. Any Apex that was dyno'd after that was only 151ish, but they were all lean on top. A power commander that brings the A/F up top into the 12.5 range is some easy hp for Apex owners.

The funny thing is that back when I had my head ported, I had a long discussion with Dave about several things. One of them being that stock 1st gen Apex's were dynoing about 146-148hp on his dyno. Yet 1 of the Yamacharged and ported Apex's he built made 190 hp according to him. I don't know what else was done to it, he didn't say. But I didn't get as close to that number as I would have liked.

That’s right in line with what Ulmer was claiming for PCV, MOD airbox and his header on an 2011+ Apex. I had his goodies on mine and it ran stronger than a stocker for sure. I’ve since sold off the PCV/MOD airbox combo and the new owner is quite happy with the performance, says his sled will now keep pace ish with a bone stock Winder.

There's no question the Windwer's are excellent performers, especially with a tune. But, it seems that a strong running Apex can give a stock winder a good run for its money. With 50 or so less horsepower!!!

I know that years ago a member was breaking the 120mph barrier with an Apex, on ice, with somewhat light mods. It seems to take much more hp from the winders to get into the low to mid 120's.

Yup, that Cat chassis may work great out on the trail, but it’s horribly inefficient when it comes to putting power down to the snow. HP/tuning being equal between the two, an Ape will lay a literal smack down on a Winder.
