i haven't had a chance yet to loosen the allen screw on my grips and check, but are the hand warmers molded into the grip or is it stuck to the bars? i'm thinking of changing my bars to pro taper bars and am curious about the heated grips.

It may be possible with patience and a heat gun to slowly and carefully peel them off but its a stretch. It will most likely damage them but I have heard of it being done. Easiest way is just replace them, heaters, grips and all.

I think if you give the bar ends (little hole at end of grip) a quick shot of compressed air you might be able to loosen them up.

This will work nicely to help remove the grips, especially if they are glued on as with quads and dirtbikes, however this will likely not help with the warmers being glued to the bars themselves. It is worth a shot though.

thanks guys. some guys i ride with have removed theirs from polaris sleds but like mentioned it was a very very long process and one grip out of 6 partially worked afterwards. i have read that some grips will cause too much current for the control unit (ecu i believe). can you buy oem yamaha heaters? i have had these grips on high in temperatures about -10C and they are too hot to touch bare hands so i guess they fixed the cold hands issue.
