here's a good story for ya. With all the talk on here about the hand warmers I decided to give my dealer(place I purchased the new sled from) a call to find out what they had heard. At the time (early Oct.)they knew of the issue and stated that they were taking names so they could get an idea of how many were required. So I gave my name and they said call back mid Nov. Well knowing how fast they work I called them last Thursday. They told me that they had started to recieve them 3 so far and that I had to be on a list to get them. So I told them I should be on the list and the guy confirms it then shoots me down because he says they're already spoken for by someone else. He had 2 left and I was ready to pick up that day. Needless to say I was a little tanked with the attitude I got over the phone so I called an other local dealer. Cycle Design if anyone has heard of them. They're in MA. Anyways the women takes my info and infor,s me that she has 1 left for the RTX models. Told her I'd be up that afternoon to pick them up. Later that day I got my new bars for $32 w/o having to give up my old bars and all she needed was my vin. Best of all they were freindly and didn't give me any #*$&@ even though I didn't buy from them. I won't give the name of the other dealer but for those of you in central MA looking to buy a new yami I'd check out Cycle Design. they have my business from know on.

Got my bars today for my apex mtn, look great and they are the same design as the new 07 apex's, they are higher than the 06 by about an inch or so thats a plus, as I do like my buddys 07 apex's height.
I did get my instructions with mine and all is good.
Thanks yammi for the fix, warm fingers here I come.

Re: Handlebar/warmer upgrade
I respect your opinion xcsp, but not according to the Rep I spoke with at Yamaha. He stated that since it was an over the counter kit that anyone should be able to buy it at the same price. Also, you are not required to have the dealer install it. The only way they can limit this kit to the '06 owners is if they supplied it at no charge under warranty which they chose not to do. I have my notes from that conversation and my dealer agrees. I am still on a waiting list though. SRP on the bar, grips and hooks if you purchased them separately last season was close to 300.00 US.
Thanks for the attachment bigger hammer.

Since it is not a warranty situation your dealer should allow you to buy the kit even though you do not have an 06.
No, the dealer shouldn't allow you to buy the upgraded kit for the $30 price if they aren't for a 2006 model sled. Period.
Yamaha is making this update available for owners of '06 sleds that have poorly heating grips.
I believe Yamaha Canada did the right thing and had paperwork for the customer to fill out, take to the dealer and receive the updated bars.
If you don't own an '06, then you should pay the full price of the bar kit, which is said to be about $130!!

I'm not sure but I think that is basically what the jumper in the kit does. I cut the connectors off my 06 bars and wired them in series like the older sleds and the code 81 went away and the grips work. They heat poorly but I think that's normal for the '06 bars.

Letter to dealer
In a letter dated May 12th, 2006 from YamahaCypress,CA to the dealers it was clearly stated that "To maximize customer satisfaction, we are making a genuine factory Handlebar Gripwarmer Kit available for your 2006 snowmobile (with hooked handlebars) customers.
Regular retail for this kit would be over $125.00, but for the 2006 snowmobile owners, the kit will be offered at a low suggested retail price of $29.95 plus labor.
Please note that this kit is only for 2006 models with hooked handlebars and is not recommended for any other models.
Not sure who the Yamaha rep was that told anyone differently, but nothing in the letter said anyone could get the kit other than the '06 owners.
It will come down to the individual dealers to do right by their customers and hopefully they will refrain from selling the kits to anyone but owners of the 2006 model sleds, at least until all of these owners that requested a kit has them, then sell the kits to anyone else-who should then pay the higher cost listed above.

Re: kit
dude, I did the bars myself, took only an hour and a half, very easy, take off your old bars set them on the motor, bolt on the new bars, then start switching over the wires and controls, very easy, and can be done by a 10 year old.
I was told one thing that the dealer you where suppose to get your update from was to put in his order back in Oct and get on a list, or you may not get any, I am not possitive on this but good luck, they do work great once on, and they give you two inch higher set up like the 07's.
good luck to ya, hope ya get yours, cold fingers suck.

It was the Rep that called me from a post I made here. I was very impressed. You have a very good point though. I agree that the kit should probably sell for a higher price to the owners of non affected sleds as a rule. Although my sled is a 2005 model, I spent quite a bit of money already switching the steering setup over to the Nytro using '06 parts. That stuff was not cheap! My point was that I wasn't too keen about spending that $$ to end up with cold hands.
