handwarmers

Mine are at the dealer right now. The guys in the sevice dept. are first class and I can't say enough good things about them. Unfortunately there isn't anything they can do. Yamaha says they are within specs. Well sorry yamaha, I didn't drop 20 grand on sleds to ride around with 2 dollar hand warmer packs in my gloves! Supposedly an "updated harness" is going to fix the phazer, we'll see. Now I await a call back from someone from customer service. Hopefully someone with a brain that will give me a solution and not the run around I got this morning!

Has anyone else heard of putting some expanding foam insulation in the bars to help...??? I guy told me that this weekend when I told him how bad mine sucked. He said he had cold bars on a sled he used to have and someone told him to try foaming the bars... He said it worked, maybe it's worth the $3.00 to try...

Later guys,

I was just ready my SNOWTECH mag and in there they have a Tech Short on the high complaints of the handwarmers on Phazers and Nytros. And in that article it says the hand warmers actually shut off when on the brake. Anytime the brake is applied the warmers shut off? This would make since to me, because when I was doing some river riding and not touching the brake my warmers got hot. Then when we were in the twistie trails and using the brake a bunch it didn't seem like they were working.

Why Yamaha does this I have no idea.

I did that with my Viper S. If it worked I could not tell.

You guys need to put a set of Powermad gauntlets on your Nytros. They go over your handguards and there is lots of room inside so you can get to all your switches and stuff. They look good also and when you put your hands in there its like putting your hands in an oven. No more cold hands and no more complaining.

Tried it, doesn't help when it gets cold and the handwarmers don't work. The heat has to be there first. I'm riding with gauntlets, hot packs and different handguards.

Sad to say, but you guys are probably going to have to drop a few bucks on fixing it yourself if you want to ride without freezing. Get some hot grips put on. Yamaha doesn't have a fix yet and from what I understand, they won't tell you until they have a fix, if they ever get one.

Maybe your dealers will step up and install an aftermarket fix at cost, not that they have to. (some have)

The brake is another of many issues with the electrical system and handwarmers. My sled was run through a battery of tests and the guys found multiple other issues related to this. It will be interesting to see if Yamaha comes to the same conclusion for a fix.

it didnt take me long to change out the warmers..$60 will fix all the cold hands...or would you rather keep posting about how bad they are?

Its never going to happen, we have had troubles with handwarmers since 03' if they were gong to fix them it would be done!!!!!
Oh and putting those gauntlets on is a saftey hazard. One day your hand will miss getting them in there properly and you will not grab the bars or you will jam the throttle.

my 94 doo,97doo,01doo,04doo all had weak warmers..i ride in any temp and maybe im a wussy ..lol but i want warm hands..hotgrips have always delivered

Check out the Powermad gauntlets, there is no way you will have problems with them. Even with thw gauntlets on you can see your hanwarmers and all the switches. You can put your hands on the bars without even touching the gauntlets. They are awesome!

I agree with the safety issue with the gauntlets - especially the ones I use. I hate using them as it feels like your hands are handcuffed to the handlebars.

I may check out the PowerMadd gauntlets as they at least seem to open up much better and should allow the hands to get in and out quicker and more safely. I've heard good reviews on them, although I'd still rather ride without them.

Hey Guys!

There is a solution that uses your EXISTING grips, bars, AND handlebar controls and you will have nice Warm Hands!
(Yes, for your Nytro also)
There are very specific directions for the Nytro on Page#7 about the 8th post.

Check it out, if you have additional questions feel free to PM, or post the question.

Have shipped a number to dealers, they know there is an issue also.

Some info: The reason your grips are cold is because the ECU sends less power to them whenever your RPMs are below 4000-4500 RPMs, anything turns on(fan etc), or you apply your brake.
Basically they only get full power at full throttle from the factory.
Everytime you let off the gas, or apply your brake the ECU cuts power to your grips.
Exactly at what points your sled does this, is determined by the programming with-in the ECU, & the exact tolerances of all the parts in your electrical system, this all varies even between the same sled model.

The Warm Hands Controller eliminates this problem.
End result is, your hands are nice & WARM!

Hope this helps!
Rock :) :-o

PS I came looking for yamahaguy, you sent me an email & It won't let me reply to your email for some reason!
