I had my first ride on my RX-1 and had to give it some throttle to get it to start. I bought this sled used and had the carbs cleaned prior to using .At that time it was stock but I have since installed green ( holtzman) springs . Does this hard starting requiring throttle mean it has no gas available or too much ?? I tried idling up to 1600-1800 RPM but did not help . Anyone else have this problem and did you fix it?

Everyone I know of requires you to crack the throttle just a pinch when warm and she'll fire right up. Thank god for electric start, can you imagine cracking the throttle with one hand while you pull the starter rope with the other

I had the same problem last year. Only when it's hot I had to apply throttle to get it to start. I discussed this with my dealer and they made a throttle cable adjustment. They also did other recall repairs. I have yet to make a run and see if the problem is solved.

Has anyone out there had this problem and fixed it ???
You need to install a coolant shut off for the carberators. It often helps to stil crack the throttle but it will fire immediately. Without the shut offs it can be a real bitch to start after it gets warm. The problem is magnified greatly if you have a mountain sled with the new deeper float bowls.
The above works, but I am wondering if another potential cure is to reduce the size of the starter jets?

I have had Yamahas for many years and I have ALWAYS had to crack the throttle when starting hot. Just a Yamaha thing.

Just cut the coolant line and put it in. Leave it open just a little tiny bit.

Just do as Ray (Spray25) said. I bought a brass ball valve and the nipples to fit the hose along with two hose clamps for about $6 US. Here is a pic of it installed.

Well I like it. Looks ok and gets the job done for a good price. Marc, you definately wouldn't like mine. It's even uglier than Blgs valve.
