This is a problem for a lot of pre 2009 apexs and some had it some didn't. i have chased it around all summer without a fix and i have read many forums explaining the same thing and no one could come up with a definite fix. i have read the biggest thing that helps was the -10 CO also was to clean the iac(idle air control valve) i think its called, it sits above the throttle body's and regulates how much air comes in at idle, but again this only rarely helped some people. I have not herd of anyone trying to adjust there valves. I would love to hear if that fixes it but again people have tried all new ecu, new harness, throttle body's, plugs, CO -10, cleaning all the ground blocks in the wiring harness with only minor outcomes. But this is why i love this site is because people have tied and put a lot of money in some stuff that should have fixed it and didn't and i can learn from it and not do it

how much is the valve adjustment? I'm at 16,000 miles and will need one possibly next year.

Just sold my 06 attak. Bought it with 900 and sold it with 12,000. Had this problem too that dealer could find any problem. Two things I did was when come to stop if idel went low to hold throdle open a little or if coming into a stop crack throdle a few times before coming to a stop. Almost like it's getting too much fuel.

I loved my attak but guy I bought my 2011 apex xtx from said it was his too until he got this one. Hope he's right, have not been able to ride it yet and I've had it for over a month. Heading up to brimley and grand marais this weekend, michigan

My tech said he would adjust the valve clearance because its stalling only when hot engine
Is he right ?
Valve clearance has little to do with valves not sealing unless they are to tight. Valves being hot and not sealing can't be fixed by doing a clearance adjustment, if the valves are not sealing you need a valve job, if the valves clearance was so tight that it is holding valves open (highly unlikely) the valves are burnt, 21,000kms is hardly broke in and Yamaha recommends clearancing at twice that. My RX has 18,000 miles or double yours and the valves have not been clearanced and it idles just fine.
I'm very skeptical that the valves out of adjustment by a few thousands will cause a bad idle when warm (why do you say hot?) but idles fine when cold. Motors usually don't like to be hot, at operating temp yes, hot no! Low idle when warm can be caused by to much fuel or even not enough, it runs great when cold because the injection is richened up at that time! So when warm is it still rich? Are you running it in a warm garage? Just how hot is it getting? Too hot it won't run right either!
I think you have something else going on in my humble opinion. Have you rode it, my RX would not idle/run right till I took it for a ride. When I came back from the first ride it ran perfect. My Apex XTX is the same it runs best after the ride. Running it on a track stand is not the same thing, take it for a good ride and see what it does after that.

Its hard to know without hearing it. It could be as simple as running too hot on the stand, maybe throttle safety switch (unlikely, but.....). If it were me I would take it out for a good run as soon as there is any snow. I don't like spending money if I don't have to..... I find it hard to believe it would be valve adjustment, but I am far from an expert....

i can't remember the exact spec but your tps at closed (19) seemes a little high. i thought 15 to 18 was in spec.
anyone. my manual is lost in cyber space.
are the throttle plates completly closed?

Do you think 19 is enough out of spec to cause this problem ? Just 1 higher.. ??i can't remember the exact spec but your tps at closed (19) seemes a little high. i thought 15 to 18 was in spec.

if the tps is giving a signal to the computer that it thinks your throttle is opening but your throttle plates aren't open
this would give you a rich running condition. like you have a choke part way on. cuz the injectors stay open longer.
it might be to high and all it would be to fix it would be to lossen the tps and turn it until you fell back into spec.
mine sits at 16 on the dash reading.
out of spec causes problems.
hopfully someone will chime in with the spec.
i know going from 16 to 19 on my sled as per the dash is quit a bit of throttle looking at the throttle.

Thank you very much black night. I will adjust it.
Is adjusting by the dash more accurate than and voltmeter ?
