Has anyone out there checked exhaust pipe and or muffler temprature on the Phazer with the tunnel closed off or open to compare variance. Talked with the dealer and he said sled looses power with tunnel closed. Makes sense the hotter the exhaust gets it condenses exhaust flow through muffler. I have not had the ice build up issues that most of have had, I ride in a lot of powder at high rpm most of the time. Also my Mtn. Lite has side panels and a tail pipe kick to devert added heat to the tunnel extension for build up. I tried to check temprature with laser temprature gun but it would only go to 532 degrees, the pipe before muffler runs at 330 degrees at idle so beaten the unit for a while i'm sure is very high. :rocks: to share this kind of info.

Finally got around to finding a temp. gun that goes high enough to test pipe temprature. For what it's worth, with the back hole on tunnel covered under muffler and pipe. Ran at 10,000 RPM + for 5 miles and pipe temp was 850 degrees at entry of muffler at idle it's 330 degrees. With tunnel open and side panels installed running at same RPM as stated earlier pipe temp. was 635 degrees on packed surface. Test was done at 15 degrees F with 93 octane fuel. After this test I will leave tunnel open and with my homemade side panels installed. I was running sled in 45 degree weather in deep wet snow at slow speed through wooded area not normal riding and temp. light was coming on periodicly. When the sled is run at high RPM in deep stuff with air moving no temp. light came on at all. I can only imagine what the pipe temp. would be with tunnel covered at warmer tempratures, you decide what's best for you. I boxed my side panels up to seat frame and backside under muffler in front of belt holder so it is completely closed with tunnel still open from bottom. It has a considerably less mess on foot rails than even just covering tunnel with flat piece of aluminum. The reason is snow still goes under exhaust with coverd tunnel melts and still runs down tunnel towards foot rail area. I have a MTN. Lite with 1500 miles, thats the only big complaint I had was the tunnel issue. Full review to come later.

upbushman do you have any pics of your tunnel? I am in my garage now getting ready to close this bad boy up since my boots were drenched completely for 4 day from all the riding. Heck I even had to trade off boots every other day so that they could dry out for an extra day. The icing up is the only real complaint I have so far on these sleds.
