Has This Happened To Anyone Else

So I am in the middle of putting all my go fast parts on the sled, along with preventative maintenance. To make a long story short I was going to grease the drive shaft and jackshaft bearing. I was taking pictures on my drivers to post in another thread because I get a little grinding noise and vibration when the sled coast to a stop, its been like that since day 1, but it looked like the right hand side drivers weren't centered perfect in the track windows like the left side. As I was taking pictures I noticed the seal on the back on the driveshaft bearing housing is popped out and not even seated in the housing its just dangling on the drive shaft. Has this happened to anyone else?? The only thing I can think of is when the sled was brand new I had the dealer take off the stock track and install a ice cobra 1.6" track and they must not of installed the seal back in correctly or something because it is popped out. So my question is what do I do about this, I don't think I should pop the seal back in because I could imagine the bearing is pretty much shot after getting all that dirt and water in it and its probably full of rust. I have never changed any drive bearings before so wouldn't really know what I am doing but I am sure I could figure it out. Worst thing is the sled is ripped right apart and I planned on pulling the chain case apart to inspect that top gear and change the engine oil to amsoil synthetic but if I go through all that and fill it back up with oil the dealer will probably have to end up dumping it all to replace that bearing correct??

I can't say I've seen that but you could start by taking off the caliper and rotor and popping the out side seal to inspect the balls/races. If they're still smooth and clean you could probably push the rear seal back in then pack the bearing and see if it cures the growling issue. If the bearing does look bad then now would be the time to change it while you have the chaincase apart. If you have the mechanical aptitude to pull the chaincase and gear assembly apart you should be able to replace the speedo side bearing without too much hassle.
 
Will look through some pics but there might be a seal on backside of bearing itself.

Yes. The bearing has a seal both sides so the seal you see hanging there is just for extra protection. So bearing will be fine. Just inspect it and regrease it. Pop that other one back in.
 
Wow great catch cannondale! You may have just saved this fellow a dozen hours of serious labor!
 
Ha not really. To inspect the bearing like he was going to do anyway he will have the housing out or at least the disc off. That's half the battle of changing bearing! But thanks.
 
Thanks for the replies guys! After I posted the pictures I started thinking that looked like a dust seal and that the bearing probably had a seal on the back. I don't think the vibrations I'm feeling are from the bearing I think it could be from the one driver rubbing the edge of the track window if it shifts slightly. I will post a pic of the drivers. I am at work right now but it is possible to remove the whole caliper and disk brake all at once if I just remove the snap ring holding the disk on and remove the two bolts up inside the tunnel in the same area where this dust seal is correct?
