Where can a person buy a head shim for an Apex Mtn? And can the average person install it? Or how hard is it to install?

Looking at a boondocker Apex and on their site they have octane requirements for 11.8:1(stock?) and for 9.0:1. Can 9.0:1 be achieved with a head shim? Thanks.

I went with a 10:1 cometic shim.

Install yourself? Depends on your skills and ability to learn and problem solve for your self. Also it takes a LOT of time, pretty much dismantle the entire sled to get at it, know how to set your cam timing, pray you dont lose a part in the engine while getting the timing chain off, etc.

Experts do it in 4-5 hours it would take me honestly probably 12 hrs.

With the service manual and some basic wrenching skille you can do it. Plan to use a lot more than kinger, he's skilled at this :-)

I would agree on 4-5 hours if you're skilled, are familiar with the work, and you're in a hurry.
