Heard a little 09 rumor yesterday.....

Got Apex RTX? said:
...edit... Oh and one last thing put EFI on the 3 holer. It's a great motor and if you could bump it up to 125-130 with FI I think you have a winner more so than they already have. Why are they not doing this. Cost? MPG?

Cost it is. I saw a Yamaha Canada rep say on TV there would be only marginal improvements adding FI to the 120 hp engine. It wouldn't be worth the cost to replace the carbs with a FI system.

Hey long time reader first time post...in regards to what others were saying earlier that a 3 cylinder couldn't produce more then 140 hp without gear reduction and such, please correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the Nytro been dynoed at 138...i asked my dealer about this and he said yup and in fact my dealer said that the new nytros have been changed further and are shipping at 142 hp.....anyone else heard this cause this would answer that post that no one can get 140 out of a 3 holer.

You are correct. Most of them are between 134-138hp

Please take a moment to fill in your profile location it's required by all members.Thank You

Heard this today from a Yamaha mechanic.

According to him the motor has been tweaked to produce 141 hp for follow on production.

IMO this would make sense, and would also be a good marketing tool for the next model year. ;)!

We'll have to send a few 'insiders' to the show in March.
I'll volunteer- I guess....

I heard power steering could be introduced

Power Steering what for? That would be the stupidest waste of time and money,an adjustable steering damper like on bikes would be just as good not to mention lighter and cost less.

The diff between Apex/Nytro is more then a coupple of kg.. The old vector engine was 3-4kg lighter than the APEX engine and the Nytro engine is supposed to be 3-4kg lighter than the old engine. Correct me if I am wrong..

The difference between the Apex GT and the Vector GT is only 3 lbs. 557 vs 560 lbs. The new engine is supposedly 8 lbs lighter which means 11 lbs/5kg total if we assume that all things are equal between the two GT's. That's not necessarily true of course but the difference isn't that big, that's for sure.

I'd sacrifice 8 kg total just for the sound of the fourbanger :)

This is kind of off the wall but I wonder if the EPS (electric power steering) from the Grizzly has been tried on sleds yet....

Yes, if we don't see it this year, we'll see it next, apparently only adds 2 lbs.

Hope not,why is there a need for it?

rightarm ... let others post, you seem to have a comment for everyone, this is just fun thread of speculation.

Pretty much for the same reason Honda and Yamaha introduced it on some of their ATV's. It's similar to the adjustable steering damper you describe a couple posts up but taken to the next level.

I'm not really sure why you need power steering on a sled either. I won't go so far as to say it's a bad thing, but really, why do we need it? Particularly if it's going to drive the costs up, which it most certainly will.

How about some new skis, adjustable seat, adjustable handlebars, adjustable windshield?

Here's a big one. How about the Apex motor in a Venture? Venture in the DBII Chassis?

I would want all of these things before I would want power steering.

I dont see yammie doing any forced air induction (we all wish) and they arent going to take a brand new model and make a wholesale change...

but the apex is due if you follow yam's sled history....every three years on the main model...so it seems the apex is due

....cosmetic trim and tweaks...double duty parts...slight internal changes like lighten the crank etc....bump the cc's to 1100ish and she'll produce the 165 easy...

then if they got rid of half the metal screws/tabs not needed they'd cut 10 lbs easy...thinner track from the doo/camo 5....5 more here and there...
they'll cut 50 easy....maybe they get crazy and make the bulhead out of magnesium or composites? or look at how doo reduced the steering parts on cad/cam and lost 13 lbs there!

maybe 65 max is possible..but either way..

fix a few niggling details...

and WE HAVE got one hell of a machine boys!

I personally think the EPS idea is a great idea as you could run super aggressive skis like C&A Razors and Outlaws or run with the limiter strap pulled up and not have the heavy steering complaint everyone complains about with those set-ups allowing you to eliminate darting and rail around corners at the same time. At first I thought why would you ever need power steering on an ATV but once you ride one with it you will have a hard time buying one without it. Unfortunately the sled market is all about cost and weight and I believe this has held this item up long enough from making it to the market. I sure hope we see some sleds with it in the future.
