I wasn't trying to be a smart azz, just saying what could result from not using a fuse. Just another note, it should be installed as close to the battery as practically possible.

I am glad I saw this post and that set up from Kimpex.
At the end of last season, my father noticed some smoke coming up the steering column and it was the heated shield that was hooked up to the battery from the dealer with no fuse. Lucky for up we had just pulled over trail side to check a map. I had to hurry and up hook it from the battery because power will not get cut when the engine gets shut down.
This set up from Kimpex will save me some time!

FYI no rubber grommet on the 2012 XTX that I could see. I checked a local Doo dealer who stocked several hook ups but none with a in-line fuse. Although the Doo hook up could be easily modified (with a in-line fuse) I decided to pay the shipping and go with the Kimpex, as it appears to come with some spare RCA wires....better safe than sorry! thanks again for the replies and info.
Thank's for that information Mooseman, on the location of the fuse

snow broke... all 2012 Apex have a factory installed RCA plug to plug in your heated sheild. It is located on the left side of the handle bar, just to the right of the rocker switch housing. it is coverd with a small, round, rubber cover.
