Heater Grips Replacement Yamaha Vector

I have a 2008 yamaha vector I am about to install new heater grips on, what are you guys putting on these heater grips before install to slide the grip over the element?? Silicone? Paint? Nothing? Also should I be heating the grip itself up and then slide it on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
