Has anyone else had a problem with the heatexchangers leaking in the center where the rear track suspension brackets are?
It appears as if the brackets may have worn holes through the heatexchangers. I will be removing the rear track suspension brackets today to have a better look. I don't want to drill all rivets and remove the heatexchangers unless I have to.
My 2007 Apex GT has 12,500 km (7700 miles) on it.
I really need to know if anyone else has had this same problem, what caused it and how to prevent it from happening again.

from what I've read it's a common problem, the running boards flex and eventually wear out the heat exchangers, I have 1 tha's leaking right now

Mine leaked on my 700. I had them welded and they lasted forever. That is right where they leaked.

Thats wear they leak. Your well have to drill them out to weld.

Any way to jb weld them on the sled or done alternative rather then taking them off and welding them?

You could use alumiloy or something like it. It's an aluminum brazing rod. just did it to mine. haven't tested it yet. I bought another exchanger and already have it on so I won't be testing it any time soon.

guess that I have just been lucky all of these years. The only issues I have had with heat exchangers in the past was hitting rocks, stumps and such and visible damage to the heat exchangers.
These do NOT have any visible damage to them...
I will remove them and have them welded.

My right one went 2 years ago, the left went last year. I have 8000 miles on the sled. I put muffinworks tunnel supports on, they seem to stop the flexing quite a bit. Only time will tell

I have had the muffinworks tunnel supports and 136 tunnel extension on for 4 years now.
Maybe Yamaha has fixed the tunnel issue with the newer models, only time will tell..

I tried the JB weld first. Let it set for a couple days. It leaked just sitting in garage. I figured it was the mounting bracket that was the problem. Since then I changed suspension. cleaned the area and reapplied the JB weld. Even without the bracket it leaked. Actually made a soft spot it the JB weld.
Aluminum brazing rod goes by several names. EZ Rod, Dura Fix, HST 2000 and alumiloy. probably several others. I've only seen it at trade shows and TV infomercials. I tried several welding supply places (Airgas) and they didn't carry it. I've found several Youtube videos that showed how to apply it.

JB welded mine without issue... And am on the larger side of 300 pounds with 12,000 miles on the sled.. Did it two seasons ago and about 5,000 miles and its not leaking thank god...

well between the two heatexchangers i have around 185 each and i bought the rivits from OFT RACING they are the 3/16 multigrip rivit 100 rivits for 25dollars! i also installed muffinworks tunnel stiffeners at 50 for a pair powder coated too! i have nearly 500 into the whole job and my sled has 6000 miles almost exactly!!! Im a big guy and my boards flexed as i stand up alot! i opted to put new heatexchangers and the stiffeners for a piece of mind. with the muffinworks stiffeners on i hope they last some more miles than without. The new exchangers also come with more holes to drill maybe that will help them! I also put a few new rivits in the running boards near the foot wells to hopefully tighten things up!! THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE "COMMON" PROBLEM! still at the end of the day I love my attack!!
