5500 miles. new track, new slides, all new bearings. I went up to the UP on a trip at the end of December and burned up my hyfax's in 300 miles. No problems while I was up there. Came home, changed out slides and took it out for a run on the local trails. Plenty of snow. I know I had my track tensioned ok because i noticed some ratcheting. I came up to a stopsign about 5 miles down the trail and when i tried taking off, my track was locked up, you could tell it wanted to move but it just wouldnt. I finally got it loose and proceeded. As I went down the trail i noticed that at slower speeds (up to 15 or 20mph) it was taking a lot for it to move, like something was hanging up or the ebrake was on (it wasnt). When I would let off the throttle from slower speeds, the machine came to a quick stop. I am suspecting that either the hyfax's werent "broke in" yet (but this doesnt explain the "braking" from slower speeds) or my secondary buttons are worn. If anyone has any suggestions please send them my way, and if anyone can tell me a telltale sign of when clutch buttons are wore out please pass that on too. Thanks in advance.

Been there done that... At 5,000 miles my yamaha stock wheels were worn down and my 2 center front boggie wheels were totally shot. You couldn't tell without looking up close, but the rubber on the wheels were totally gone.
I was locking up my track in good snow conditions to the point I couldn't ride. I over heated my machine and melted the track to the hyrax about 6 times. This only happened at the beginning of the season when I had a fresh set of hyfax on the machine. I didn't have any problems the season before cause the hyfax were all ready worn down. I was forced to sit out the trip because I couldn't take the machine more than a couple of miles before melting the track to the hyfax.
My fix...
I purchased a set of 8 excell wheels and put them on 3,400 miles ago and haven't changed my hyfax yet since then. They are about 1/2 worn at the moment and I probably won't change them next season. I also have a fully clipped 1.25" ripsaw track that probably helped as well. The standard tracks are clipped every 3rd window (I think).
Look at your wheels....

I went through a set in 400 miles...set the track to spec in the manual... dealer said my track was to tight..got him to set the track and no problems since..he set the track looser, have about a 1,000 miles since and they look good.

Same issue this year for me, new set gone in 200 miles ( did the tempering project, not a believer at all it's plastic not an alloy ), 1.75" track. 135mm wheels and all the jazz... Got the Dupont slides and still amazed, zero wear in 500 miles in fair conditions.
