HELP 2007 apex rtx inner idler wheel replacement questions

Attempting to replace 1 of my inner idler wheels. Looks like it melted. (2600 miles)

I've jacked the rear of sled, remove tension on springs, remove outer idler bolts, remove inner idler bolt. I can move the inner idlers about 1/4" up and down but not out? I read on the forums to let undue the rear of track. What a pain. Any "easy" deas would be appreciated.

Can you post a pic to be sure we are looking at the correct wheels... the inners are fairly easy.

I've just taken the entire skid out.... I've replaced these wheels more than i'd like to admit... but i'm also set up with chain falls off ceiling etc...

questions

I read where someone followed this set of directions:

1. Raise back machine
2. Release torsion tension and remove outer idler blocks/torsion sliders
3. Release center spring tension
4. Remove idler shaft bolts
5. Pull idler shaft forward and up
6. Remove collar setscrews and slide off the idler/collar assy's

But, how do u remove center spring tension? I'm confused?

Roll the spring block on the idler wheel forward and then unhook the spring one side at a time.

Here's what I do. Raise back of sled, Loosen track, loosen rear axle,unbolt spring block from rail be careful rotate spring to the back, take the lower w arm bolt out, take the bolt out from the shaft that holds the inner wheels on. loosen the lower transfer bolt from the rail, pull rail out from the drive lugs on the track about 3" loosen the set screw on the top of the block right by the wheel. should be able to pull the wheel off now.

Stupid Question: What's the spring block? I'm a noob, so have mercy. Everything else I get.

I call it a spring block, its the block that is attached to the rail that the spring end goes thru. and the outer wheel in attached to. becareful there is tension on the spring.

donkickit if I am reading your question correctly in your second reply you want to know how to remove the spring tension from the front track shock (the one with the spring wrapped around it)? Is this correct?

That's correct AK Yammi. Looks like you need a tool, if it's even possible.

this is why i remove the entire skid to work on it.... loosen track, remove 4 bolts, skid drops out...

Once out of sled, it is very easy to work on. Put it up on a bench, and give a good inspection. If you have some sort of hoist, or anyhting to hang rear of sled, this becomes a one man task..

Yes you need a tool it is possible and quite easy. I would go to the dealer and get a shock spring collar wrench (hook shaped wrench may want to get 2 fro when you tighten the collars back up) shouldn't be too much money. I have never priced one though as I had a pair left from my SRX that came with the optional Ohlins. You can use a chisel and hammer but I don't reccomend it as you will chew up the teeth on the adjustment collars.
