Help Apex WAY tooo EFFING darty.

I feel your pain. They suck in the stock config. There downright scarry. I had to do both a 1/4 ski shim under rear ski bumper and install doolys. Doing just one was not enough. Do both right away and you will have no more darting. I can live with a slight push over the darting anyday! Mike Knapp#17

A note about shimming...

I shimmed my sled when new. Seemed to help but the darting got worse over time.

I removed the ski's at 2000 miles to install these www.snowtracker.com
and noticed that my shims had "mashed" themselves into the ski rubbers to the point where they pretty much weren't doing anything anymore...

I've got about 300 miles on the snowtrackers and I'm very happy with them.

I have 144 Studs on my track.

The 500SS I have runs the trails like a dream. The Apex is literally scary, to the point of being really really dangerous.

Thanks for your help.

my darting comes when not under accelleration on fairly groomed trails. Does the amount of sag (set in adjustment) add or subtract from ski pressure. (not transfer, but arm load at trail speed)? On old style suspension, you would increase pre-load on front shock rear suspension to eliminate arm load & most darting. Not sure if increasing the spring pressure on this suspension adds to ski pressure or not?

GT Dave do they have to be replaced as often as carbides or as often as skis? How much did you get them for?

YammiMoose,

What length deuce bar are you running? So, no push?

I am running the 6 inch. 144 1.325 studs, 96 down the middle and the rest on the sides and the Big Boy Spring.

I enjoy easy steering; some might prefer the longer ones.

Every sled I ever rode will push a bit. But it was a noticeable difference from the Woodies and it gave back some top end.

I've only got 300 miles on them. They still look brand new, but then, I was riding in excellent snow conditions.

The kit does both skis and cost me $180 Canadian.

I liked the Shaper bars at first, but they didn't last very long!

The carbides didn't last for shitt!

I have the Razor skis too!

Thanks, I'll def try those. I am actually real happy with the Doolys and the push is minimal but I know lots of people have hit things with the Doolys and been thrown off and bent A-arms. I'd like to avoid that.

Loose track???

I just replaced my oriignal predator track with an Ice ripper. THe first time out, the track deflection was at 1 and 1/16th. I felt it was a little snug but rode it. I could not believe how well this tracked in a number of conditions. I was suprised at the lack of darting compared to the predator with 144 studs. After replacing the hyfax, I set the track at between 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 3/8th's. This thing was all over the place on the subsequent trip. Any thoughts???
