Greetings 4-strokers! I've been sledding since the early '70s and bought my first sled - a '77 340RV - in 1980. Currently, I own a '99 Poo XLT Touring. Sled before that was a '98 Mach Z long track. I put over 3600 miles on the Mach in less than 3 winters. After a few years of not riding much, I'm looking to get back at it and the XLT just plain ain't fast enough.

I ride only on groomed U.P. and northern WI trails. No boondocking, ditchbanging or anything else. I loved the power of the Mach and the handling wasn't bad for a big, heavy sled. The XLT, aside from having considerably less power, is more darty and wandering than the Mach, but it rides better. This is somewhat important as I have a bad back. Luckily, because of my job schedule, I'm able to ride during the week when the trails are usually pretty good. We usually put on 250-350 miles on the days we ride.

I'm thinking at 46 and not as interested in spending my life in the garage, it might be time for a 4-stroke. I'm mainly wondering what the differences are between RX-1's, Warriors and the Apex GT. How much stuff changed from an '03 to '04 to '05 with the RX sleds? How different is the Apex chassis from the RX? I've gotta stay under $5k and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I only spent $4k. I like the idea of the injected Apex, but I'm not sure if that alone is a big enough reason to shell out the extra ching.

You can see that I've been on long track sleds for awhile, but I'm wondering if I might want to go back to a 121" for a little easier turning in the twisties. Not that it was ever an issue with the Mach LT. How much difference in handling is there between an RX-1 and a Warrior? Basically, any info you guys can give on the different Yammies that would suit my riding style is info that will help me make the decision. Oh yeah, not interested in anything that doesn't have the big motor. 120hp won't cut it.

Thanks in advance!

i would advise the warrior not only because i own one. the war was virtually unchanged untill the apex/attak chassis came out. i only know of 2 differences, taller seat on 05 and longer rear shock on 05. the 136" bridges the holes that 121" sleds leave in the trail giving a smoother ride. the 05 rx1 has the 1st year mono witch is a smoother ride but has problems with w arms and rails cracking with trail use.

the apex and attack i hear, have a better mono and a more rider forward riding position.

buy the sled that siuts you and just make it better for yourself. i almost have mine to where i want it.

By Being brief I'm not trying to be a dink just too lazy to type

03 progressive front springs and 10mm sway bar makes sled tippy

04 straight rate springs and 11mm sway bar helped this

05 you get the mono suspension which was the first year and had a lot of issues, be ready for regular skid maint although it rides much better then the proaction and over 23lbs lighter to boot.

06 apex rider forward, easier to stand, Fuel injection, lighter crank, 150hp, Best seat in snowmobiling (gt is softer then rtx there is a difference), crappy handwarmers (worse then rx) rtx skid is marginal for durability and performance, mono gets some updates but still issues, gt models get electronic rear adj shock where the wires pull out and front clicker shocks, revised front suspension that lower the front end a little for better cornering and it works.

07-10 apex mono issues are fixed, everything else the same besides bold new graphics

Thanks for the info - keep it coming. I'll add one thing that may or may not come into play with the mono rear issues. I only weigh 165lbs. Would that help the issues?

Apex is way better than the rx, but you can do wonders with the RX. install an Apex seat was the biggest diff for me. Opens up the knee angle so it is way more comfortable. The Apex is FI Vs carbs. much more snappy. 135Hp Vs150Hp. Cost is the bottom line I guess? I would never go back to a 2 stroke!!
