If you could have input into Yamaha's decision making (and believe me, you do) on what an 08 Apex Mountain (or its replacement) would look like what would you change?

I'll start ...............

I was thinking the latest iteration of the R1 engine with 175+ hp and a fly by wire throttle system with computerized moving intake tract airhorns might be a nice addition.

The more rider forward riding position of the Phazer could be utilized provided a much more ruggedly handsome outer appearance was presented.

Also, the steel rear suspension mounting brackets need to be lightened up a bunch.

I'm sure there are plenty of other items you'd like to see updated or changed. What would they be?

Make a raw version, similar to the route Poo is going with the new Dragon.
Get rid of all the B.S. and lighten that thing up. Keep the SE or plain Jane for people who need all the cushy stuff. I love it on my Attak but for a mountain sled it's about necessity, not plush. Oh, I forgot to mention,
BOOOOOST!!!

I love my Apex more then any stock sled I have ever owend. It works great about 85% of the time. That 15% is spring snow that just beats me to death by the end of the day. After 8-10 hours of boondocking in the spring I am beat!!! that is when the weight really gets to ya.

With that said, please keep taking weight off the sled and offer us some track options. i wouldnt mind at all if they stripped it down to save weight. Eric

I like where this is headed!! I too would like to see track length options like a 151" that you could toss around better. Also, here are some more changes like adapting a more direct drive to save weight and make more room under the hood as well as clutching that is adjustable on the primary without dismantling it, and also even though it is the coolest looking exaust going could we lighten it up more and drop it through the tunnel or single it out? I like the heated running boards, but would like the outer edge of the rails to be heated instead or as well (my shins would thank you!) and a better design on the airbox to improve flow and keep snow out. THAT LAST ONE IS A BIGGIE! I LOVE DEEP POWDER BUT I HATE THE FLOODING AND SPUTTERING AND POOR IDLE AND THE THIRTY POUND BRICK OF ICE IN THE NOSE OF MY SLED. ON MY LAST FEW TRIPS I'VE BEEN THE ONE OUT OF GAS AND TINKERING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL WHILE THE 2 STROKERS ARE RIPPING UP THE POWDER SNOW. I just don't think you should have to tear this machine apart and seal up the hood so you can get a snowmobile to run in snow?

Thanks that's my 25 cents worth.

Joey, two minutes with some foam tape will fix that snow getting into the front of your sled. Eric

I sure like the idea of a raw version!

I'd like to see a "spring order only" XX version that came with the stuff we end up putting on the sled from the factory.

Give us a left hand throttle
A skid plate
A shovel, beacon and probes stored under a removable seat
A Camoplast Challenger Extreme track
Lightweight rear suspension drop down brackets
A maybe even a lightweight exhaust

A slightly larger and wider version of the phazer with 180 hp (3 or 4 cyl) and a 153 challenger track would be great .

Hey Vector BOY, I had the same mind set you have regarding left handed throttles until a couple of seasons ago. When I first used it, it felt totally wrong and I hated it but I started practicing with it and now I wouldn't think of riding a mountain sled without one.

Unless your right arm is WAY longer than mine there's just no way you can get the kind of leverage on left hand hillside without a left handed throttle. Unfortunately where I live not all the mountains don't always run on the right side of my sled and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

So until that time I'll be using my left handed throttle to make me a more capable rider.

I agree with that. Especially on the hard pack when your sled is trying to pull you down the hill.

Oh, and to stay on topic, I would say increased HP and decreased weight. I know that is what everyone wants, but I just love the Apex as is, so if they could just make it a little lighter, or a bunch lighter and increase the power a little we would be good to go.
