I have read extensively about the particular problems/shortcomings of the 2007 model, and is preferable to look for a '08 or newer for all the updates ($1000-1500+ in value added features/fixes). However, I have a lead on a low mile '07 (Under 1k miles) for a great price. The machine has never been back to the dealer since purchased (no recalls done). From what I understand Yamaha will still fix/cover a handful of the necessary recalls for the '07 model, but none of the service bulletin issues. My question is, if I were to purchase this sled, drop it off at my local dealer, have them fix the recalls that are still covered, how close does this bring it to the '08+ machines? I've read mixed forum posts on exactly what is still covered.

You should be darn close to an 08.. then the other service bulletins you can do yourself and those were pretty minimal.

The number of actual recalls were minimal. I am trying to remember the actual recalls and I think it boiled down to an issue with some linkage freezing up front. Everything else was a service bulletin which would not be covered unless you encountered an issue that was related.
So in that respect, a low mileage '07 may not have run into the other issues. I'm sure they are listed in a FAQ, but here is what I can remember
1. Skid Link
2. Other skid components
3. Reverse update
4. Enclose the tunnel hole to reduce ice buildup
Items that should be addressed that were not a SB
1. Steering slop (only really noticed after a couple thousand miles)
2. Add a cooling fan to the Radiator
Nice add ons
1. 1.5"x 14" Freeride track, (huge help in reducing ice buildup)
2. Woodys dooleys on stock skis, if not replacing the skis
3. Rocks HID kit
4. Additional Wheel kit at the front of the skid
5. Dupont Hyfax
6. MSR Fuel bottle and Tool Tube on the tunnel for an extra ltr of fuel
7.

The only one missing is the cold weather start update, which is replace the ECU and the decomp springs although the ECU is the main culprit. Basically two things on this. Engine takes a few turns more to start but is more an issue below -20c. It was a special extended warranty item that has since expired. Unless you have an issue with the longer cranks to start in normal temps (not an actual issue, just takes longer to start) or you often get really cold temps (an issue with no start), it is not necessary. Cheapest way would be to find a used ECU.
Actually, there's another one. The ground block update that the dealer will still fix free IIRC. If not, it's is available from the dealer or can do your own fix.

If you ride it hard the biggest thing is the linkage and arm update in the skid. Rest can easily be worked around and wouldnt cost much. The skid redo was pretty extensive.
