For the temp gauge install I more or less followed the tutorial in the Tech section of this site. I decided to save a few bucks and go with an old-school mechanical temp gauge. Got a Sunpro white/chrome gauge(to match the stock tach) from the autozone for about $15. The length of the capillary tube was just perfect for the sled, ziptied it into the existing harness, and it perfectly reached to the tee I installed between the thermostat housing and the line over the motor head. I already had some LED lighting for the vents under the headlights, so I spliced a 12v power off those to power the gauge's backlight. Works great, took maybe 1hr start to finish to install, and cost under $20.
I preferred the mechanical because they have a larger "sweep"(270degree rotation) than the digital ones, around 120 degree. It's much easier to glance down and see how high the needle is, the ones with smaller sweeps have much tighter scales, requiring you to really look to read the temp. On mine, if it's straight up or more, you're got issues and the temp light will trip any minute. Ideal is a 10-11 o'clock position.

I made my own protectors out of square stock from Lowes and I used aninch and a quarter conduit bender to bend it up. To get the shape I took a piece of cardboard and traced the rough outline of the cooler. It was really pretty easy. Good luck!

You might have a problem with the sharp edges cutting your lugs. I had a similar arrangement and noticed the problem when backing

I had thought about that....I think I may bend up a couple pieces of aluminum sheet and rivet over the opening in the front to cover the sharp edges....thanks for the heads-up!!!!

Well, I finally got back to it and got the sharp edges covered up with some 1/8" aluminum. I went ahead and covered the back of the tube too to give it a more finished look...not that anyone will ever see it, but that's just how I am!!! Here is the finally finished project!!!!
Glad this is done!! Now I can concentrate on my new Apex seat and Rox risers when they get here this week!!!

Try checking you thermostat if you still have a problem.
I was fighting a similar problem but I thought that mine was working fine because my heat exchangers were getting wam, but after checking mine I found that it was not starting to open untill 190°F
For my 03 RX-1 it is supposed to start open at 165°F and be fully open at 180°F.
After closer inspection I found two slivers of aluminum caught between the moving piece and the metal housing. The two pieces looked like casting flashing from the engine block.
I re-checked after removal of the pieces and it worked as it was supposed to.
I was out for a ride tonight and it did not overheat anymore even if I stopped to idle for a couple mins, yes mins not secs.
I checked mine by putting the thermostat in an old apple juice can half full of water and heating it up on the kitchen stove and monitering the temperature of the water with a thermoiter or the temper of the thermostat using a laster temp gun.
Good luck with your problem!

Thanks, RX1DERFULL, I will keep that in mind!!! I haven't had a chance to run my Warrior since the install yet, but I will be riding at Muni next weekend, so we'll see how it goes!!! Thanks for the info!!!

Here's something I made up for my 04 Warrior that I install whenever there is LOW SNOW CONDITIONS! They work very well and I have verified the difference with them and without them installed, using my temperature gauge.

Yeah I saw your thread awhile back....I think I am going to make some at some point over the summer!!! Thanks for the reminder!!! Obviously I have the rear cooler installed now, but they would be worth it just for the other benefits too, plus helping even more with cooling on hard packed trails!!!
