Although the rust on the silver parts is similar to what I had before I had them powder coated a couple of years ago, your rust on the black frame is worse than what I have right now on my untouched '07. It looks like they went light on the paint or didn't cover or prep the welds properly. I'd call Yamaha customer service again and push some more. Tell them that you are talking about this problem publicly and send them a link to this thread. They should try and do right with you, especially since it is still under warranty. Document everything and threaten small claims court. Although you don't need a lawyer for small claims, they would need one and would probably be more economical for them to settle way before that. And it would also be better for their image to do so.

Well I just called the selling dealer to see if any change on #Yamaha decision concerning the rust.
Selling dealership now tells me Customer service says that I must have power washed the sled and put the cover on it when it was still damp.
I think it is time to take it to court.

That's their excuse? Pretty lame is you ask me. Be sure you document everything. Have you tried calling yourself? It's probably easier for them to tell the dealer "no" than the customer directly. Your dealer should have gone to bat for you on this. Found this info if it helps.

Call them and see what happens. If you do go the court route, you'll have to put both the dealer and Yamaha as defendants.
And all of this could be resolved by them just sanding it down, priming and painting the affected areas.

That's disgusting! A 2014 with 800km and all that rust? Did that sled fall overboard when it was shipped from Japan?
Pathetic quality Yamaha.
I hate hearing stories like this but I seem to be hearing more and more with Yamaha these days, more so with the Vipers though.
Continue to address this issue with your Dealer and Yamaha to make this right... If they don't, proceed with court action.

Yes I have been calling #Yamaha customer service myself. They were the ones who first told me not manufacture defect due to more than one type of metal rusting. I still can't wrap my head around that one. That's their excuse? Pretty lame is you ask me. Be sure you document everything. Have you tried calling yourself? As far as I know, steel is the ONLY metal that rusts. Doesn't matter, a defect is a defect.

At the risk of appearing to be some sort of Yamaha apologist I think I may at least understand what they are saying when they talk about different kinds of "metals" rusting. To be clearer they may have said that there is corrosion on bolts, parts painted silver and parts painted black and that it defies the odds that by chance a few defective parts all happened to come together in one area of one machine. Unless Yamaha is fielding a lot of similar complaints it seems pretty logical to me to conclude the cause of the rust was not their doing. One assumes that you didn't buy it looking like that so the ball is out of the dealers hands.
Maybe post elsewhere on this forum inquiring if anyone else has had similar problems, use something catchy like Rusty Yamaha. There is strength in numbers in situations like this. The old saying should really be, "The squeeky WHEELS get the grease."
For my part I find the quality of Yamaha's paint work inadequate considering the expense and sophistication of their product .

Well my problem is that everytime I challenge them on the issue they change the reason. Not covered while towing and I proved them wrong not washed and I showed pics of me washing it last year (wife thought it was funny me washing a machine made to be in snow) stored without cover and left outside for summer. Picture proved them wrong. Different metals rusting well that just makes no sense. Now they say I must have washed it and put cover on it while it was still damp.At the risk of appearing to be some sort of Yamaha apologist I think I may at least understand what they are saying when they talk about different kinds of "metals" rusting. Just so everyone knows I love the machine. It is a nice looking nice riding machine. I put another 300km on it today. I just don't like the rust starting after only 10 months old. I feel #Yamaha should atleast cover the cost of repainting the rusted areas.
I bought a Yamaha ATV 4 years ago and have had no problems with it. A little 350 Kodiak. Funniest thing was when I had to pull my buddies 600 arctic cat atv out of the bush while we were hunting.

Well today at the sudjestion of my lawyer I called #Yamaha to allow them a chance to get the rust taken care of before papers get served for small claims court. I called and spoke to customer service. He says he will speak to his manager but says they rarely change the initial ruling. Now I will wait to hear back from Yamaha.I have the same problem with My MP 2014 in Sweden, i whent to the dealer today for the first service 800 km. What a bunch of stubborn goofs. Really? What's the cost of a bit of sandblasting and paint? I'm working on my sled tonight and will post my 7 year old untouched frame as reference.

Here are pics of my 2007 MP at the shock mounts as reference. I basically have the same rust but after 7 years. No use showing my bumper since I have had them all powdercoated.
