1CS - Is the skidplate a Yamaha unit or a different brand? Also - how does the red on it look with the rest of the sled in person? Would you do red again or go black?

Bill

THe skid plate is from Yamaha. I would go red again. In my opinion, the sled didn't have enough red, to much black. I also have the red ski handles to put on yet and the red and black handle bar guards. I think it will all blend together real nice. I thought about red boggy wheels, but I thought it would be too much. I like the color scheme I have now. Once I actually run the sled, well see how dirty the red skid plate gets. That would be the only factor that would make me go with black.

You don't have to worry about the red skid plate getting discolored. I have 2000+ miles on my RX-1 mtn (not to mention all the trailer miles in salt dirt etc.) and it still looks like new. You shock covers must be shock pros huh? I have the same ones on the wife's RMK 900.

That is great to know. We'll see how it holds up to my driving, lol. I'm not called CrazySledder for nothing. LOL. I've been known to run over a few signs here and there, over shoot a curve, etc. I always have fun in the winter. My local parts guy loves me. Bring on the snow........

I'd like to get one for my RTX also. Is it held on by screws or rivets? Can it be removed easily for oil changes?

Thanks for the help,

Bill

The skid plates are a very good buy IMHO. I hit a boulder while crossing an opening at about 35 MPH pitching me right through the windshield. Barely scratched the Skid plate but it sure did some damage to my A-arms and carbides on the left ski along with pushing my slide rails to right about 1" in the front.

vice108, they are held on by six screws; two up front and four in the belly which requires the drilling/removal of four factory rivets and the installation of four rivnut fasteners with the included tools. Removing the skid plate takes about 1 min with a screw gun.

Yep, that is how it is. 6 philip head screws. This is my first four stroke, I didn't know I had to remove that to change the oil filter. I know to drain the oil, all I have to do is remove the side panel.
I'm sure I have alot to learn about these sleds. I feel like I have to learn all over again. Almost sounds like fun, though.

I'm in the same boat. It's a whole another world from my SRX.

Vice,
Right. I'm comming from a SXr. I bet everything is differant. The tork, the handling, maintance, etc. My sxr has about the same hp, but that is about it. Should be an educational season for us both. Have fun, I'm sure we both will.

1CS, you don't have to take off the skid plate to get at the oil filter (at least I don't). There is a second drain plug on the bottom of the motor (in addition to the drain plug on the bottom of the oil tank )that I also remove each time I change my oil. The engine might be a dry sump design but it still hold some oil in it. That is the reason I remove my skid plate and the black plastic access panel behind it. I assume the APEX motors will have the same dry sump oil pan design.

dealer told me my rtx wont be in till mid november :o| that is a sweet looking sled....back ground colors on the gauges look cool ;)!

I see. Like I said...It will be an educational season for me. Thanks for the info. I'm sure I will end up doing this the same as you just to be sure all the oil gets changed.
