Here's a '08 front MONO pivot arm pic...

My 05' RX1 broke the lateral tube that the transfer rod connects to and my 06' Attak is ready to go there too, along with the cracks shown above. I am going to re-weld and re-inforce both of them myself, I have already welded the cracks. Will post pics soon!

I have a '05 mono with all the fixes that came during warrenty. No cracks. Do you really have the correct settings on you shock?

I thinkt the damage happens when you bottom it.

ANyway going for a 08 Warrior GT mono in my 05 now.

The bottoming occurs when the skid hits the stops not the end of the shock travel. Most of the failures are at wilds where the tubes were weakend by the heat of the welding. The last one I broke failed at the welds where the control rod attaches as well as at both to mounts where the arm is bolted to the tunnel.

I drew some pencil lines on both sides of the limiter strap mount to show where mine broke.

Thank you. Is there any other known places I should carefully examine?

Take a good look inside the pivot arm bushing housings where they bolt to the chasis either side. Mine was cracked badly inside as you can see from the pix. I had stripped the skid for pre season maintainance having done 7000miles last winter. I almost missed it as it is always covered in grease. However seeing the usual rusting taking place I decided to send it for powder coating. When I cleaned everything up for sandblasting here is what I found!

that was in august 08 so i got yhe 09 parts they are reinforce at weak point,,,more bracket and weld,

I have a call in to Yamaha - not a whiner -but if you are putting down the power with these sleds the last thing you want is a suspension failure - at ANY speed! This is my own GT and is meticulously maintained. I bottomed it out a couple of times - nothing radical but it looks more to me like a fatigue crack and having covered high mileage (awsome 08 snow!!!) I think it has more to do with material failure.I see the 09 arm is a different part number and is definately beefed up. Have suspension in to HYgear, latest wheels coming and hopefully Yamaha will see the light! and I'll get the 09 arms - even then they are going for sandblasting, inspection of welds and powdercoating after this.
Usual pre season scramble but the machines are awsome and it will soon be snowing!! But dont want to be out in the deep blue yonder, flying along at just over the speed limit wondering if the pivot arm is going to fall apart!!

Yes I went back and took a look at the 08 version that you have -thanks - they have definately beefed it up. Do you know if they changed either of the other two pieces and if the 09 version is any different ?
The quality of the welding and finishing leaves a bit to be desired!!! but I think the powdercoat process will firstly show up any weld faults once its sandblasted and secondly give a more flexible and better protection.
Its the guys who dont go to the trouble we do of stripping down and checking these things that I feel sorry for !

arm cracked

just wondering if you ever heard anything from Yamaha, I'm installing the newer arm in mine as well but I feel this is a recall type issue

I called Yamaha and they wouldnt admit that there was a general problem. My sled went out of warranty on Jan 08 so they said they could not replace the pivot arm free of charge. I told them that although I have repaired /made good all of the previous faults I felt that a problem of this nature should be taken care of by them especially given the number of sled I have purchased from these people over the last 10 years. Dont get me wrong I was not trying to get something for nothing - like yourself I feel that this is definately a design issue. Neither am I known for my whining !!
They still refused to replace the assembly and I told them I was prepared to shut down 400 acres of trails on land I own surrounding the March Snodeo event at Colebrook State Park NH - during the event - but only to Yamaha sleds - due to my concern over safety. That seemed to get someones attention and they agreed to send me a complete set of parts..... but get this....they could not send me the new updated version for LIABILITY reasons as technically this frame was not designed for my earlier sled!!!!
My friend at the dealership said that it was unlikely I would receive the old unit as the part number had been updated and was impossible to order but sure enough thats what arrived 2 days later !!!! So... in frustration thats when we took to the welding bench and did our own version ( see post with pix).
My impression is that they know that it is a problem and will not respond favourably unless forced on the issue.
If the problem had been caused by misuse or abuse/ lack of maintainance I would just have got on with it and fixed things myself but the number of incidents and occurance on a well cared for sled points to a design or material failure fault.
The people I dealt with at Yamaha were very helpful but I had to go further up the ladder to get my point over. I recommend you trying the same. Let me know how it goes. GOOD LUCK !!Mark

Well, you have a tiny bit of leverage there [/sarcasm].

Yes you are quite correct....but sometimes its whats needed to obtain a fair result. After all, we are merely looking to be treated fairly after investing out time , money and enthusiasm in what I consider an outstanding machine.
The small idiosyncrasies we are content to deal with but not such fundamental design flaws surely. Sorry....just had to be heard.....would have been hell of a job enforcing it if they had called my bluff LOL !!
Good thing....its snowing right now !
