i just bought the yamacat 2014 RTX viper leftover. (Paid under 10,000 zero miles) My question is is there enough front and undercarriage protection ? I occasionally play off to the side but mostly stick to trails. I will need to make a trail from my home to hit main trails. Anyone recommend any must haves that were left off from factory let me know. My last viper came with belly skid from factory. was a 2004 viper s. Any help recommendations or must haves would be appreciated. I plan on new windshield carbides and picks up the middle. After break in turbo? Maybe exhaust if not to loud.m( New Hampshire doesn't like pipes) I see a lot of parts for sale just not sure what I Really need or what people are just trying to sell. The sled compared to 2 strokes feels heavy to me. Not trying to make a boat anchor if I don't have to.

That looks great, now start adding some mods to it to make it even better.

Thanks. My wish list is coil shocks like piggyback ohlins or walker Evans . Ordered the black 9 inch windshield today, looking at bumpers,.
I am not sure if people are putting in larger cams in these. Again new to 4 strokes sled wise. Kinda a diesel head and Harley fan. And look into a turbo providing they hold up without burning the engine up.
After finally getting a few minutes to really look over sled the undercarriage is bare. It looks as if a cigarette butt would cave in the removable plate do the LE editions come with factory skids?I will wrap the sled most likely from one of the kits I seen on eBay. Anyone have Graf kits they suggest? If so I'd like to see pics of your rides.I'd hate to have one that peels easily.

Nice sled! you will love it and i would ride it first before you change front shocks the people that have the stock coil overs really like them. I would look for a HD front bumper like the yamaha sport or the skinz bumper. I would also look into the yamaha rear skid plate, there is barley any protection under these sleds and there is no protection for the bottom of the chaincase. If you want a turbo i would not worry about a it if you read around here there are so many people that have them because of the yamaha/mpi partnership for factory turbos. In my own reading i have found the MPI 180hp kit and the hurricane 190hp kit are the top kits for these sleds. I personally liked the hurricane kit better and i have one coming for mine this month.

This is what I like to read. Now with these turbos how loud are they? I get bagged literally annually for pipes or even just a can. Now my 2 strokes are, worn out and decided to go with the new 4 strokes for myself. Yeah I rode the apex and attack to heavy and un realistic to ride in every situation . Skidoo was my next choice to stay 2 stroke but now Yamaha made a decent 4 stroke under 3000 lbs (lol). Any pics of your sled bud?

The turbo kits can come with either quieter than stock mufflers for trail or they can come with racing loud cans. One other thing, i have the same stock skis as yours and they come with a 4" round bar and on mine they darted like crazy and change them out after the first ride. if you want to stick with stock skis people like 6" woodys slim jim duallys, i went with 8" berbstorm triple points, i like them because then rail the corners and have 0 darting but they turn like a bear. I will probably be changing my skis out to either curve xs skis or slp mohawks. Right now my viper is completely stock but not for long....

Nice Sled, I sure your going to love it. Dont worry about the weight, ya its heavy on paper but they feel light off trail and are very flick-able in the deeper snow. I agree with Dirtbikekid and drive it a bit you just might like the shocks, these sleds are pretty good right out of the box. The Yamaha bumper and skid plate fit great, look good and will take a beating off trail, trust me on that one.
You were asking about the turbos, lots of good options here but we run the MPI trail turbo kits and still have out 5 year warranty on the sleds and a excellent engineered kit . The turbos are not loud, matter of fact the MPI kit is a bit quieter then a stock sled, I kinda like that personally. Best of all is the big smile you get driving a turbo
Check out my album on here if you want to see skid plate or bumper pictures.
Congrats and welcome to the viper club

Yes I would not go 10ft off the trail without the factory rear skid plate. First time I did without a plate I folded the left "frame" where it touches bellypan and disc guard was about ripped off. Never knew till it thawed out.

Not bad, im in the skowhegan area. The trails start to get really good once you get above Bingham. Northern Maine like Jackman the trails are like riding on a interstate

Man you would think Yamaha would want more protection for under carriage . I noticed in pics guys are running bars near straight up. My dealer set these where they are.

Stain what part of Vermont ? With turbo you change gear set or leave stock? How many psi will head gasket take?
