COST COST COST. TIME TIME TIME, HP HP HP
Cost. For 1/8 of the cost you can make equal HP and it takes you 1/10 time to install it.
Plus with hauck selling CDI boxes i'm sure you'll be able to get a custom box here soon. You'll be able to throw 250 hp of NOS at it.
It would cost you big bucks to get that out of a turbo or a super charger.
Plus you don't have to change a thing with your stock Machine.
Only Draw back is you must refill your bottle. So what do you do?? Buy a refill station for 800 bucks. You get a 20 pound bottle. So you could refill a 2.5 pound bottle 8 times. The would give 90 10 second runs. That's 90 passes that lasted 10 seconds. Now that time would decrease with larger hits. However I bet you only make 30 to 40 passes in a afternoon.
Why spend the big dollars as a flat lander that has access to his refill station right there at the truck?
The nice thing about the turbo is you always have it. Once the bottle is empty it's empty. But for a guy that runs Ashfault most tracks refill bottles on site.
Can you imagine a 150 hp Rx-1 with 250 of NOS "400Hp" for about 1100 bucks!!!!!!

Timing huh? Graves Motorsports is where Hauck gets all his RX-1 perf stuff, they make it for the R1. They do make a adjustable timing plate for the R1, wonder if it will fit the RX?

Airwolf - I like them both, but............
There's advantanges and disadvantages about both. I love how you can go down the trail with just a stock sled, push the button and you have extra horsepower at a touch of a button. The rest of the time, it is still in stock form. The problem used to be keeping the bottle warm for pressure, but Barry's nozzle takes care of that part now. The other problem is bottle usage, and refills at 3.75 a lbs. The advantage is cost for horse power, and if we had an ignition retard that would give us -10 degrees, we could throw 200 horse to the motor no problem.
Turbo, is fast, but the turbo is spooling all the time, but giving you a little better fuel milage, if used right. Cost is the big one, and installation to me would be worse than the NOS system. I have Holtzman's on my 05 RX1 which I will be trail riding this winter, and a fogger setup on my 03 RX1. After installing, I could probably do it again in an hour or 2. Jtsrx, and I will be doing an install on his.

Nos-Pro - Did you see me post earlier about the advance/retard plate for the R1? You think it would fit? Supposed to be + or Minus 10 degrees base timing.

If this one would not work, I have access to about $3million dollars worth of CNC machines. ( I sell CNC Machines for work) and I could make one of these just for the RX-1. It is not rocket science, just need a motor NOT in a sled to take apart and measure.

I was just looking on the Yamaha sled site, at the parts info. Looks like a tandard sled setup for ignition, 4 magnets on a flywheel, with a pickup over it.
I could easily manufacture a adjustable ignition system to move the pickup. Now, this will not change the ignition MAP, only the base timing. So if we want to take 10 degrees out on the top end, we are loosing it on the bottom end.

RX Dave - You hit it right on the head on that one. That is why I wish we could get a CDI reprogrammed to keep stock, or advanced 2 degrees off of an idle till about 4,000-6,000 rpm, and retard 3 degrees, up to 10 degrees that we could use any nitrous setup.
The plate would work, but only to about 3 degrees, and you would have a big bog off of bottom end. Need to find a happy medium somewhere if the plate was used. MSD has the dial retard for the Crtch rockets that run off of one coil, not the 4 coil setup we have. Then you could change right on the dash, and waste time on anything. I have contacted a lot of companies, and they said to switch over to a sytem that uses 1 coil, for all cylinders.
