this weekend i was out with friends riding on trail 7 in ny and my left ski (simmons) caught the rail from the underlying railroad tracks in a spot where the snow had blown off (the rest of the trail was beautiful btw) and the ski snapped in half! the upper and lower a arms bent around my fox float (which survived) but the was the extent of the damage. a mile behind me my dad did the exact thing except his ski (simmons) survived, but his upper and lower a arms bent, and the hole for the bottom a arm in the bulkhead ripped out. needless to say i will not be heading down that trail anytime soon... any ideas on the cost of having that part of the bulkhead swapped out, as that is the only part of the job im not doing myself? and i will also be in the market for a new set of skis (i loved the simmons, but the are sometimes hard to turn at slower conditions) becuae i wanna trry something new. i was thinking curve xs, but how are they handliong and darting wise.??... thanks guys

I cant comment on the curves. But I love the slydogs on both Apex we have in the garge. My wife rides them, and she doesnt complain once abot heavy steering.

Love my Slydogs. Minimal darting better on & off trail than stock. Easy turning regardless of speed.

Got to watch those railroad tracks. I also messed up my A arms two years ago riding the tracks just south of Old Forge. Never did see any exposed tracks, just felt a little jolt and next thing I know I can hardly turn my sled, as my left side A-arm's wewre bent. I also have SlyDog skis and like them very much.

I ripped an A-arm out of a the bulklhead on my old Vector. I don't recall the exact $$, but it was very expensive. Lots of labor there, as everything up front attaches to that thing.
Slydogs here too. Excellent.

Don't you carry ANY insurance on a sled that costs like 10 grand to replace???

I run Ski Doo pilot 5.7. They have minimal turning effort and handle well. They don't dart either. Sucks about what happened. I just rode those tracks on Saturday for about 20 miles up to the Old Forge area. They can be sketchy at times.

which slydogs, the power hounds, race, or trail, i think i would go with the race for the thicker ski for added strength

Chalk up another for Slydogs. My take: you probably wouldn't need the race skis, but may want to consider the powderhounds. Same profile as the trail version, just a bit wider.

I love my Curves. No darting at all, and no heavy steering at low speed.

Bulkhead
I did the same thing first time out this season on a rock under the snow. We welded the bulkhead and it works fine, maybe stronger than original. You have to get with a real good welder, the one I used is a sledder and has experience with these types of fixes. Then we bought new arms, spindle, etc. with a used shock and it's been working out well. Replacing the bulkhead is a monumental job and I was told by my insurance agent they would probably total the sled. Rather than going thru all that BS we just fixed it.
PM me if you want any more info.

Re: Bulkhead
my thoughts exactly....unless you want to spend some serious coin and counless hours of labor...weld it...first remove all the damage....remove the good parts surrounding the damage and inventory...make a parts list..find a good welder like stated above...work your parts list...reassemble..I know it seems insurmountable but you can do it..
also..there are ways to get upwards of 25% off the o.e.m parts...
as to the simmons...I love them...when they feel heavy..I just adjust the shock and viola! easy as pie...setup is very important on these sleds because of their weight....more bite or less is just a tunnel adjustment away..
as to the sly dogs...I almost went there..I heard they dart...but that can be minimized or even completely removed.....but in removing the dart, they have a tendency to push in the corners from what I heard?
If you do weld...make sure you remove the ecm!

Not bad to replace bulkhead. Lots of rivets but if you have all the parts easy to do over a weekend
