This has given me some serious stress. Every time I try to put the muffler back on it catches when slipping over the Y pipes. To the point that now I think I'll have to replace the gaskets. What is your truck for getting them back together.

Been so long since I did one on an older apex/rx sled. I think I bent the retaining tabs up and started the gaskets on the pipes before I slid the muffler on. I bent them back down in place. I do remember using penetrating oil for lube as they did not want to slide very well and it just burnt off when I started the sled.

Put grease on the pipes.

Do you have the y pipe hanger bolts loose so each pipe can self align as needed?

Yes Y pipe hangers are loose, I can get it to start but then gets stuck. I will try some of these ideas though. And if anyone has any more I'm open. Thanks guys..

I bent the tabs and greased the flex gaskets. Smoked a little at first heat cycle but was worth it. I went through 2 gaskets (curling up on me) before I tried the grease and they slide on a little easier. Still sort of a B*** of a job though. Hated that in the apex.

Make sure the gaskets are not curled up and are straight. Then make sure the pipe that fits into it is dang near polished smooth. I use a scotch bright pad or fine sandpaper like 220' Yea a little lube of some kind will help but I never needed any. Also make sure there are no sharp edges on pipe that goes in...I round the edge off end with a file.
