How loud is a Bender Turbo?

Does anybody know how loud a Bender turbo system is in comparison to say a White Knuckle QC1 or GP1, or anything else for that matter? I see this system as having many advantages over other systems for mountain riders (no decreased fuel capacity,keeps weight out of the front where you definitely don't need any more) as long as its not too loud.
 

I have the same setup as Bender, and I don't think that t he sound is too loud. I would say it is comparable to a triple with stingers on it. Haven't heard the White Knucle exhaust, so I can't comment on that part.

The turbo is unreal.
 
They are loud, but not exceptionally so. But there is a much quieter exhaust on the way. I will be getting one, as I ride in a noise sensative area.

I had a QC-1 and now a Bender. There is not much difference between the two while you are riding. I do think the Bender sounds louder when you are listening to the sled ride away though.

I am not a fan of loud sleds and I think the Bender is ok.
 
Spray, when you say you now have a Bender do you mean a Bender Turbo or just a Bender exhaust. If you are now running turbocharged I'd love to get some feedback.

Yes, I have a Bender turbo. I'm still working on the clutching, but it is a good system. The jetting from Bender is not accurate for the mountains. The lag is not bad at all. It's basically non existent. A lot of people on here have said that because of the distance of the turbo being in the back that lag would be a huge problem, after running the turbo I do not agree.

All in all the kit is good. Very modular and easy to assemble. It's obvious a lot of time has been spent on R&D. The instructions have a few flaws, but are usable. Bender is going to be releasing a new oil system soon and it is a needed upgrade.

It's amazing how cool the charge tube stays. There are no heat problems under the hood.

Bender is great to work with. Terry is a good man. He was quick to respond and made sure I was happy. He cares about his customers. I have had excellant support from the dealer I got the kit from as well. Michael, at ww.bullydog.com Michael knows his turbos and you should see his personal sled. WOW!! A tweaked Bender kit and Nitrous. His help with setup has been awesome. I can't recomend him enough.

I plan on doing a full review after I finish getting it dialed in. Unfortunately because of other obligations I probably won't be done for a few weeks.

The power is great and will put a smile on your face. :D I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.
 
Spray, Thanks for your reply. My suspicions have been confirmed. I think this setup will work out well for us mountain riders.
 
Spray, I talked to Bender Canada today and they told me the oil system upgrade consisted of a larger rear mounted oil tank and also a different oil pump. I thought they would have gone the same way as MCXpress and MPI.(Engine oil)
 
RX fun, Bender canada is incorrect. The oil system revision consists of using engine oil for the turbo, removing the oil tank from the rear, relocating the scavenging pump to the front of the sled.

I'm still *anxiously* awaiting my Bender/MPI mountain turbo and would love any input you have from your own experience. I have a 159, some lightweight stuff, and usually run between 6000-9000 feet. Thanks... :lol:

MXZ is correct the oil pump is being relocated to the front and the tank in the rear is being replaced with lines from the front.

We run in similar elevations and sleds. I am 5000-8000+ feet. I have a 159. I have lost a pretty good amount of weight.

My testing is not fully completed yet as most of my testing has been down low near my home. Also it has rained for two days and taken most of the snow down low :(

You HAVE to lower your needles or you will get a horrible gurgle in the low end. right now I have my needles all the way down. I know of 2 other people that have even taken out the white spacer. I am running 142.5's for mains and according to my air/fuel gauge and my plugs I couls stand to go to 145's. I still have the stock pilots, but am seriously considering going smaller. I HATE taking off the carbs. I have a friend who is going to smaller pilots so I am waiting for his report before I take the carbs off. I want to go to 145's and smaller pilots at the same time to save tearing those *$(@# carbs off twice. I am tunning a 280 jet in the pitot tube also. The pitot jet is simple to change but it takes huge moves to make any diferrrence. I highly suggest getting a GOOD air/fuel gauge and a boost gauge is a MUST.

As for clutching...... This is how I have approached it so far. I have a field a few hundred yards from my house. I have had limited amounts of time to test so I want to get it running as good as I can there before I go climbing. Besides, the snow (last time I went up) was not good enough at elevation to keep me from hitting rocks etc. I started out playing with the stock weights and that just wasn't getting me any where. I now have Heel Clickers. They seem to be working very good. I am going in baby steps so I can really see what is helping and what is not. I am VERY close to being dialed in, but I need my snow in that field to come back. The Clickers I am using are the 40-10's NOT the 92-11's they made for the RX-1. Apparently Bender has had better luck with the 40-10's (although I thought they were pretty much the same?) I have the white primary spring (a real treat to work with given it is about twice as long as stock). My engagement is right at 4000.

It won't do much good to tell you what I have for weight cause I am about to change it. I WILL give you my setup when completed if you'd like. When the weights were sent to me they were VERY heavy in the shoulder and the middle (traditional heel spot) and there was nothing in the tip. I tried lighting the heel first cause that is easy to do with everything on the sled and that had very ill effects on performance. I have now been SLOWLY moving weight from the middle to the tip. It seems to be working good so far, but I need to go further. My upshift is just to quick right now coming off the starting line. I have not touched the seconday yet. In the field the back shift is great. The real test is of course my back shift in the steep and deep. I am considering gettin HC's new secondary too, but we'll see what the wife says. I think I may have exceeded my toy quota already this year :)
