I think the kits cost about $600 which is alot but well worth it!!
How hard it is depends on your mechanical ability! IF you have worked on stuff like this before.... maybe 3-4hrs!!

If you want to familiarize yourself with what would be involved with installing the kit, you can go to http://www.totallyamaha.com/ site and then click on Technical Pages on the lefthand side of the page. Then click on Snowmobile Tech. On this page, click the 'Chassis/Rear Suspensions & Drive' link. From there, click the RX-1 Reverse Install link. If you have ever worked with your chain case (i.e. switching gears or chain, draining/changing gear oil, etc.), you should be ok. I was going to have dealer do it but Yamaha would not let them add the reverse kit to my extended warranty so I really didn't see any benefit in letting them do it since I've had gear cases apart on other sleds. I would also agree with Welterracer on the approx. time. That would still allow you to take your time and get all the parts sorted out cuz there are a lot.
As for pricing, you may be able to locate a used kit. Have seen some on this site for sale and heard about others on sale at eBay. Typically, about half the cost of new. Here is a link for one that is being offered in the Classified section...
